Why we need to test alcohol in breast milk.

Your baby's body is still in its immature stage. That means baby can tolerate very little alcohol. Choose Carthetic breast milk alcohol test strips, which can quickly help you detect the alcohol content of your breast milk. Avoid alcohol harm to your baby.

When can I feed again after drinking.

It's a good idea to freeze a portion of your breast milk before you plan to drink. Since drinking alcohol, your blood alcohol level and your breast milk alcohol level can last for 30-90 minutes (it varies from person to person). Therefore, after drinking alcohol, wait at least 2-4 hours before breastfeeding to give your body time to excrete the alcohol. Q: What is the mechanism of alcohol detection in these test strips？

A: The alcohol concentration in milk is comparable to the concentration in blood. Breast milk alcohol test strips consist of plastic strips with reaction pads. When in contact with an alcohol solution, the reaction pad will rapidly change color depending on the alcohol concentration. The pad employs a chemical reaction that uses a highly specific reaction. Additional details can be found in our product brochures .

Q: Can the test strip be used on thawed frozen breast milk?

A: Yes, you can use it to test frozen or refrigerated breast milk. But you need to keep the breast milk at room temperature before the test. When you are ready to test, pour a small amount of sample into a clean and dry container. When the sample reaches room temperature, you can test it with Carethetic test strips. The process of temperature recovery will not affect the alcohol in it .

Q: How much breast milk is needed to get accurate test results?

A: You only need a few drops of breast milk to test. You can express breast milk directly onto the reaction pad, or dip a test strip into a small amount of breast milk. This process typically takes 6-8 seconds for the reaction pad to saturate. You don't need to dip the test strips into a whole glass of breast milk, so there's no waste.

Q: How do I store these test strips?

A: Carethetic breast milk alcohol testing strips should be stored in an airtight package at 4-30°C. Test performance may be degraded if storage temperature exceeds 30°C. If the product is refrigerated, the breastmilk alcohol test strips must reach room temperature before opening the bag.

    So the picture with two test strips was me trying it out on some previously pumped refrigerated milk and freshly pumped milk. I had a few drinks the night before but it may have already been out of my system at that point. So i tried it again another day a few hours after a christmas party and it showed blue. For those saying it doesn’t work keep in mind that everyone’s body metabolizes alcohol differently, it depends on your height, weight, etc. so even if the test strip remains white, it could just be that there isn’t enough alcohol in your system to show up on the test.

    Normally, I avoid leaving reviews but because of the safety factor I feel obligated to share my experience.

    The details mention that you are able to receive results in 2 minutes. This is not the case with the product I received. After waiting for the test strip to fully dry, I found that the shade deepened in saturation.

    I’m not sure if it’s accurate after the first 2 minutes or to wait 15-20mins for the strip to dry down fully. I can’t help but wonder about the other people who have used this product and threw the test strips away after the first couple minutes. Very upsetting really.

    Will not repurchase.

    I’m surprised there’s not more reviews on this product. I had good success with these, whenever I’m unsure about my breastmilk I test with these strips I’ve seen both positive and negative results so I know they work. Great to have, just keep in mind you really need to saturate the pad well! Wait at least two minutes for it to change. This is my second time purchasing.

    First off, totally not an alcoholic. But my wife and I haven't really felt comfortable drinking since she was pregnant and we kind of really miss drinking a bit. So these strips provide a great level of comfort by introducing balance and science and knowledge into drinking while producing breast milk.

    I think that this is a little price to pay for peace of mind in drinking while caring for your child (LOL That sounds awful.)

    What I'm trying to say, is that it's a lot easier to have 3-4 drinks at a party, come home, and concretely test the milk after pumping to KNOW whether or not it's fine. Everybody's metabolism and drinking habits are different so it's great to bring science to that.

    The strips are very easy to read and easy to test with. I'd definitely recommend this for anybody wanting to bring science into their drinking-and-baby-raising strategy.

    I'm impressed by the sensitivity of these. I tested one to make sure they work as expect, using a known 0.04% solution. They appeared blue within seconds, and we're a bright blue by 2 minutes. I would trust these to test for alcohol, and would indicate even before you felt any effects.

    The picture was taken around 3 minutes, these will darken with time, and you need to read them quickly after 2 minutes for an accurate reading. The instructions are only on the box, and included pamphlet. I would have liked to see them on all the strip packets as well.

    I tested the pregmate brand a year ago, and with the same concentration of solution, the color was a very faint blue, so thumbs up to these. They appear identical, except the writing on each strip in now red instead of blue.

    I wish they had these when I had my kids; but, my daughter-in-law is benefitting from them. These strips are fantastic, allowing nursing moms to know how much alcohol is in their breast milk before feeding their babies, and a shaded system that approximates the amount of alcohol. While she hasn't used any yet, she said that they've each got expiration date (8/23) and will be useful to her over the 8 months, giving her peace of mind that she can enjoy a cocktail or two on a special occasion and still confidently feed my grandson, or just destroy the milk that can't be used.

    Full disclosure, I didn’t have a boozy breast milk lying around so I used the next best thing, cow’s milk and vodka. I used one test strip on regular milk, and got a 0% BAC result. I added a little Tito’s, and ran the test again, definitely an elevated level of alcohol in that sample. Takeaway from the testing, they work!

    One thing I didn’t like, the instructions for using the test strips are not printed on each bag, you have to refer to the instruction manual every time. It would have been nice to have the time for dipping the strip and the time for reading on the bag for easy reference. Every bag does have a reference for decoding the result, and you do have to match colors to interpret the result.

    My wife is breastfeeding and has been scared to have any drinks. Last night we had my yearly company party and she had a couple of drinks. No knowing how long to wait until testing the milk, she tested it this morning and it came back clear. I was not sure if these were working, but then I added a couple of drops of some alcohol on hand to some milk to see if that changed it to blue, and it did. I wish it was more clear to understand how soon after drinking that the milk needs to be tested. I am assuming we probably waited too long. At least after adding some drops of alcohol to the milk, I do know they work.
