The FZ-5 is a modern pedal built for the modern guitarist, but the sounds you can get from the FZ-5 are pure retro. Looking back at the glorious rock sounds of the ¡¯60S and ¡¯70S, the FZ-5 recreates its vintage fuzz through BOSS state-of-the-art cosm technology. Recall the fuzz-filled flavors of classic pedals, such as the Maestro fz-1a, fuzz face and Octavia pedals, and kick ¡¯EM into overdrive with the fz-5¡¯s boost knob.     Not one to write reviews, but this is a great versatile fuzz that gets alot of flack, when I first got this only really liked one setting, and was pretty disappointed also extremely noisy, later I decided to read the manual and that made all the difference, the 3 settings are designed to stay at 12 o'clock, anything over that is past the boost of the original pedals this is modelled after, got some good suggestions for presets in instructions, like on the Octavia setting didn't work to well until I turned the boost to 1 and then there it was, so is this the best fuzz out no, is it a cool fuzz with lots of sound options and not crazy expensive, yes well made of coarse

    This is a good fuzz. Modelling has gotten good enough to recreate the sporadic sputter of some more noisy analogue fuzz circuits. The Maestro preset on this device is an awesome showcase of that (remember to turn that fuzz knob up to "boost" for this preset). The only issue I can think of with this pedal is that it needs a tone knob but that's personal preference and if you're a fan of classic tone-less fuzzes you'll love it anyway. To get around this I stick an overdrive behind it and control the tone through that. My klon clone is particularly good at this without effecting the fuzz characteristics.
