- Reviewed in Canada on February 9, 2021I really appreciate how Dr. Choy looks for the good in his patients and looks beyond their symptoms. He shares lots insights on how to walk with those experiencing mental health issues. He also recognizes the importance of community and a faith community in mental health.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 4, 2018I am not a fast reader, but I enjoy reading this book from cover to the end in my five hours flight to Toronto. Dr. Choi shared from his case files with permissions, and added with enriched insights at the end of each sharing. His presentation is from cases more medical based treatment to community care, from handling individual medical needs to the needs of an individual patient, from physiological, psychological to spiritual. I echo with his holistic treatment to a person. What Dr. Choi inspired me in this book is in his exploration of recovery into a spiritual discovery, just like he used Terry Fox story to inspire his patient. Highly recommended. It is an easy and inspiring reading.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 13, 2022Verified PurchaseI loved the attempt at raising awareness around mental health issues, and a glimpse into treatments. I also loved the connection the author makes to community groups and stakeholders in helping people with mental illness to get better. However, the author has an overly optimistic view of the kind of help a church and a pastor can provide. There is an assumption of capacity that simply doesn't exist in most churches.
Good book on mental health and treatments, but overly optimistic on the help non-trained, unprofessionals can actually provide.
