About the author

Terri Blackstock is a New York Times best-seller, with over seven million copies sold worldwide. She has had over twenty-five years of success as a novelist. Terri spent the first twelve years of her life traveling in an Air Force family. She lived in nine states and attended the first four years of school in The Netherlands. Because she was a perpetual "new kid," her imagination became her closest friend. That, she believes, was the biggest factor in her becoming a novelist. She sold her first novel at the age of twenty-five, and has had a successful career ever since.
In 1994 Terri was writing for publishers such as HarperCollins, Harlequin, Dell and Silhouette, when a spiritual awakening drew her into the Christian market. As she was praying about her transition, she went on a cruise and noticed that almost everyone on the boat (including her) had a John Grisham novel. It occurred to her that some of Grisham's readers were Christians, and that if she wrote a fast-paced thriller with an added faith element, she might just find her niche. As God would have it, Christian publishers were showing interest in the suspense genre, so she quickly sold a four-book series to Zondervan. Since that time, she's written over thirty Christian titles, most of them suspense novels.
Terri has appeared on national television programs such as "The 700 Club" and "Home Life," and has been a guest on numerous radio programs across the country. The story of her personal journey appears in books such as Touched By the Savior by Mike Yorkey, True Stories of Answered Prayer by Mike Nappa, Faces of Faith by John Hanna, and I Saw Him In Your Eyes by Ace Collins.

- Reviewed in Canada on August 27, 2016Verified PurchaseWhen I read on the back cover that this was a modern day version of The Music Man, I couldn't wait to read this as The Music Man is one of my favourite musicals. I was drawn into the story right from the beginning. Logan has made some bad decisions in life and has arrived in town as a con man, but the more you get to know him, you can get glimpses that there is a good man inside of him. Carny grew up surrounded by con artists but has lived an honest life in town for the last 9 years. When Logan arrives she is positive he is a con artist, but can't convince the townspeople of this and starts to have doubts herself based on some of Logan's actions. The longer Logan stays in town the more he is drawn to changing his ways. Can he really do it? I really liked Logan and wondered how he would turn what began as a con into a reality. The interactions between Carny and Logan were entertaining and kept the story moving. I underlying theme of the story is overcoming the past and forgiveness. I found the ending satisfying.

5.0 out of 5 stars If God can Forgive You Why Is It So Hard For You to Forgive Others
Verified PurchaseI loved this book from the beginning to the end. That's why l am sitting here in the dark at 5:48 am. with tears streaming down my face. I have been working on my own forgiveness not from God but for myself. I wanted this lonely little boy to find true love and happiness from the beginning of this book instead of the lies and bitterness that he grew into from feeling betrayed and lost since his mother never can back to pick him up from the baby sitters. Can you imagine how his life would have been changed if someone had told him even at the age of five that his mother had not abandoned him but was killed? All the years of believing satan's lies that he was not good enough to be loved turned him into a bitter self hating man out to get even and cheat everyone who came into his life? I did not want him to cheat one more person! It took the trust and love of an unsuspecting town, a little boy who captured his heart, the love of the only one against him and God who gave him the courage to change against all odds against him. It turned into a heart stopping love story! I loved it as usual for Terri s novel who also is courageous!

4.0 out of 5 stars due to the description and my expectations but it was still a good story.
Verified PurchaseI wish that in the description of the book that it hadn't said it was a modern "Music Man." For me that ruined the reading of the book, as I then knew what was going to happen from the beginning. Even though I didn't know the details of how it would work out, I was right. If that was removed from the description and if I had realized that this was not a typical "suspense/action" from Blackstock (and that was my fault), then I would have given it a 5 star. I was tempted to give it just 3 stars, due to the description and my expectations but it was still a good story.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to con a con
Verified PurchaseI loved this story! I have never read a story quite like this one. I have been to carnivals as a child but I never imagined what kind of daily life that would be like. I loved the main character, Carny, who was acquainted with the morals and the main purpose of carnivals. All through the book, God's forgiveness and love is shown. The love that grows between the 2 main characters was so unexpected.
