Followed instructions for the sink/bucket method. Used the hottest water available from the tap. Saved a pair of black Uniqlo Ultra Stretch Jeans (89% Cotton, 6% Polyester, 5% Spandex) that I accidentally swiped some bleach on.

Left it in the dye for around 45 mins (stirring) and used the ColorStay step right after. Only downside is that it takes quite a bit of time and constant stirring. Under certain lighting, you can still see where the bleach has previously lightened the colour (by looking closely, the bleached parts are a slightly different shade of black and seemed a tad thinner). Under normal circumstances, it should be barely noticeable.

I have used this a few times and the result has been surprisingly good. I usually make a giant vat using a plastic tote and I have only used hot tap water, and it always seems to work just fine. I really fill it up and usually use two boxes. I've changed the look of quite a few items, and so far, so good. It doesn't smell and doesn't burn your hands... just read the instructions. Use the additives it suggests based on the fabric you are using (salt or vinegar).

I dyed an expensive linen dress. It turned out great. I used the washer method since the other was going to be too messy. I used the whole amount of each bottle and hot water. However I did have to improvise because my machine had bells and whistles; therefore, even if you stop the cycle it will start back on its own. I had to unplug my machine in order to do the full hour. Also I had to stir and move the clothes by hand for an hour. It turned out great though, so I can keep enjoying the dress. I think it was well worth the effort. It did not discolor the inside of my machine. The tag inside the dress stayed white. I have no idea about buttons. My dress had nothing like that. After everything was finished, I put it back through the wash and rinse cycle with only cold water for and extra final rinsing.

This stuff works much better than plain RIT black dye, powder or liquid. I managed to redye some splotchy jeans with this and it fixed the spottyness of the previous dye job.

You��ll need a pretty large stovetop container to do jeans on the stove. I used a galvanized tub and placed a piece of Jean cloth in the bottom so my jeans didn��t touch the metal. A stainless tub would have been better.

I ended up re-dying five pairs of jeans with the one mix. One at a time is a must to allow even coverage. The dye was slightly less effective with each successive pair, and the last pair it just darkened the blue they had been dyed previously. I used the fixative in my washing machine and it worked well to trap the dye in the fabric.

The picture shows the jeans I cut the sample from and the sample cloth that was in the bottom of the tub.
