    This custard powder works. It is a pretty good substitute for Horne's custard powder. Horne's is superior flavour wise though. Bird's is more sugary and lacks the lovely homey taste of Horne's. Bird's is more expensive on 鶹 than at Wal-Mart ($4.67 for 340g can). I use this custard powder for the filling in Nanaimo bars. I don't cook the Nanaimo filling though; I just mix it by hand until it thickens. It takes awhile. My filling doesn't follow the recipe on the can of Bird's.

    From the time I received this item, there was 16 months before the best before date expired. I wrote on top of the can the day I opened it.

    The pictures I submitted were taken 3 months after I opened the can. I had made 2-3 batches of Nanaimo bars already with this can.
