I couldn’t turn it on when I got it so I checked the batteries. One was dead and the other almost dead. The dead one is bulging out at the top. Now I have to get batteries before I can try it.

Simple but and accuracy is close.
I picked this meter up because reading the pH of our pool is hard to do with the paper test strips. This meter is pretty simple- it only reads pH. It comes in a plastic case with three packets for testing/calibrating the meter.GC and PCSimple but and accuracy is close.

I had purchased another meter a while ago so put both of them in a sample of pool water. My wife took another sample to the pool store and that sample had a pH of 7.7.
Side by side this meter read 7.6 after 4 minutes. The other meter took 7 minutes to get down to 7.86.
This meter is close, if the store reading is accurate. I guess I could get some distilled water and use one of the packets to check the meter, but if I use distilled water it would have a pH of 7.0 so I that would be a good test too.
If I do test and calibrate the unit, I'll update the review. For now, being within a tenth of of the pool store's value is good enough. I gave the product 4 stars because it take 4 minutes to get a reading.

The quality of this item is very Harbor Freight. Still, it seems that it will do the job. It comes with a plastic case, instructions, and three packets of powder for calibration.
The instructions feel incomplete but the picture is helpful. I personally could not get past calibrating the 6.86ph. It did the blinking and never stopped. I looked at the instructions and it seems that it's supposed to stop blinking on it's own but it never did. There is no troubleshooting section in the instructions - only a note to call them ASAP.
If it works, this is nice for someone to use at home or for a school science experiment. I could not get it to calibrate so I don't know. I am going to give it 3 stars, regardless, because I do think there is a lot of potential for user error. Like I said, I am not a person who has used these for work or anything so it could very well be me. That said, the price point suggests that it might be something someone like me would pick up for whatever use and the instructions don't really help.
