To start, I have to say, I'm grateful to have the opportunity to try this product. Right out of the gate, it went straight onto my arms and hands, (bad scratching day.) It has such a nice texture and feels great. Even the sticker across the lid felt thoughtful. How cute is that? 🤗
For years, I've dealt with full-fledged itching thanks to allergies, inflammation, and resulting dry skin. In summer, it’s a different kind of itch, from the heat outside and sweating (some people have an allergic reaction to their own sweat which begets more scratching — yup). Add in, constant air blasting from portable AC units and fans; and the result is very itchy and torn up skin from scratching (not cute), and feeling self-conscious, especially in summer clothes. 😔
I do use a derm-approved, fragrance-free barrier cream to help with eczema flare-ups and lock in moisture. But it’s allergy season, so my skin’s inflamed. And while searching for a natural based product to use in addition to that, I clicked on this balm from Buckderma. Once I learned how sea buckthorn oil helps soothe inflammation, calm redness, and moisturize dry, irritated skin (like what I deal with), I thought, what a clever name. 😉
So, this balm includes sea buckthorn oil — which I didn’t know about before, but since learned comes from the berries of a hardy shrub. It’s rich in omega-7 and vitamins A, C, and E, all known to help with redness and inflammation. This balm also has jojoba, castor, and carrot seed oils for hydration, beeswax to lock in moisture, and vitamin E for antioxidant support.
The balm lists a few essential oils like lavender, frankincense, and bergamot — but only in small amounts, so the scent (to me) is fairly undetectable. Besides, these oils are pricey, and using more would have made the fragrance noticeable and raised the cost. The gentle scent makes it suitable even for those sensitive to fragrance.
The texture is thick and buttery but melts into oil when applied, absorbing without feeling greasy. It leaves a lovely almost glistening (not sparkly) finish.
This balm comes from a Canadian company run by two sisters, whose products are made with natural ingredients and designed for multipurpose use.
It’s good value for the price, considering how little you need to get results and how multipurpose it is. I’m impressed. And maybe it’s psychological 🤔 but I feel like it’s already helping. Maybe that’s the ‘made with love’ part at work. 😉
