Product description

The BeadBuster XB-450i is a 2024 updated design of our original small frame bead breaker (the XB-450 – 1st released in October 2012). It is also a replacement of the other small frame tools (XB-451, XB-452 & XB-454 PRO). The new design updates include Premium Investment Cast construction from hardened 4140 Chrome-Moly Steel, custom Grade-8 Bolts with crowned tips, and double female ram thread length (1″). These improvements address weld and thread stripping failures that some customers experienced with the legacy design. The removable clamp arm can be swapped with other accessory clamp arms for specialty applications. With the home mechanic and trail rider in mind, it was specifically designed for difficult-to-remove ATV tires, but we soon realized that it worked just as well on just about every kind of tire there is. No adjustment is needed for different tire/wheel sizes. The portable bead breaker is small and perfect for stashing in your glove box or tool box. Save time, money, and frustration by quickly and easily changing your own tires whenever, and wherever you want. SPECIAL APPLICATIONS: ATV/UTV REINFORCED RIMS The accessory Clamp Post (BB1X-CAP) is required for use with ATV/UTV Reinforced Rims that have a reinforcing ring (aka “rock ring”), such as Kawasaki KFX OEM wheels, and certain aftermarket Baja racing wheels. Reinforced Rims look similar to Bead Locks, but should not be confused. AUTOMOTIVE CONTOURED RIMS Certain cast aluminum and alloy passenger vehicle rims have a profile that prevents the tool from clamping properly (see illustration). For Automotive wheels with curved/angled surfaces, the accessory Extended Clamp Arm (BB1X-CAE) is needed for proper clamping with those problematic wheels. 7″ & 8″ ATV RIMS The BeadBuster XB-450i was designed for use on the most common Diameters of ATV/UTV Rims: 9″ and larger. Smaller rims (7″ & 8″) have a different and shallower lip profile. Use on these rims may cause damage to the tool and/or wheel as the feet can catch on the bead retainer. However, the tool can be effectively used on these smaller rims with a spacer (BB1-SPCR) that we sell. Its a small magnetic pad that effectively shortens the feet for small rims. Damage to the tool as a result of use on these smaller rims without the spacer voids the warranty. This only applies to 7″ & 8″ AT class wheels. Small Lawn Mower and Go-Kart wheels do not need the spacer.

    I don't write a lot of reviews but after using this amazing little tool I had to share my experience. I was working on some old ATV's that had very old tires essentially "welded" to the rims. I tried EVERY trick in the book, several from online, a few innovative ideas of my own, many cuss words and bloody knuckles and 4 hours trying to get the beads to break with no luck. Defeated I went to find a better solution.

    As an old physics teacher and current mechanical engineer I was impressed with the design concept of the Bead Buster. It was one of the only designs that uses the geometry of the wheel and simple mechanical advantage to pry the bead away from the rim and OVER the retaining "rib" found in most ATV wheels. I debated heavily on going with the cheaper China made version of this but decided to support the original creator and USA made version that cost a bit more.

    My experience: once I got the tool I was so excited to try it out, I went out to "play" with it during my lunch break and after 20 minutes I had both of the tires I was working on broken loose and off the rims. Amazing performance! I have now used this to change 6 different ATV tires and think it is an excellent tool, maybe little overpriced but it WORKS! It is very easy to use, especially if you have a cordless impact/drill to run the bolts in and out.

    Some tips for REALLY stuck tires: 1) use soapy water around the bead 2) after setting the rim bolt (the one that pinches to the rim) work the bead breaker bolt (the one on the tire) down 3/4 of the way and back it off 3) loosen both bolts and move the bead buster 3-4" around the tire and do it again 4) repeat step #3 until you work your way around the tire to break things loose 5) on the second pass, run the tire bolt all the way down 6) after a few more tries it will almost for sure start to break the bead and you can use a bar or something to hold it if you need. 7) Be PATIENT, it can take 2 full passes to get the tire to finally flex enough to stay off the bead

    NOTE: if you try to go to fast and drive the bolt down all the way you may puncture the tire and fail to break the bead. Make slow moves and you WILL get them off. I had some extremely stubborn tires and eventually got all them off.

    The XB-450i Bead Breaker is the ticket! I watched a few videos while I waited on 鶹 to deliver the Bead Breaker. I needed new rear tires on my Hustler Fast Track mower, it has 20x10-10 rear tires. Took it out of the box, removed the stem so all the air would escape. Sprayed the bead and rim area with a soapy solution. put the bead breaker on and used a small impact driver to tighten and loosen each of the 3/4" bolts. It was fast and simple. I used some tire spoons I ordered off of amazon to get the tire off the rims once the beads were busted. I removed both tires in about 15 minutes. It took 2-3 minutes to bust the beads loose with the XB-450i. When I finished I applied some grease back on the bolts like they had when it arrived. If you follow the directions, it very easy to remove a tire from a rim. Great design and well made right here in the USA!!

If you are the type of person who does their own tire change and want to save space or want something small and portable, then this is the tool for you. Easy to use. Breaking the bead was a breeze. Won't leave a mark on the wheel. Using an impact gun with a 19mm socket will allow the tool to work faster. Extremely happy with this tool!
