Garth Montgomery Williams (April 16, 1912 – May 8, 1996) was an American artist who came to prominence in the American postwar era as an illustrator of children's books. Many of the books he illustrated have become classics of American children's literature.

    commenting on this book in particular and the other Little Golden Books board books in general, i adore the intricate vintage illustrations of the animals therein and am pleased with the good quality and (i think) decent binding of the board books. I have also bought hardback books from the same series and returned these as the pages were badly cut and of thin quality, and not terribly well bound.

    I have given a star rate of 1 because, i feel, it unjust and inappropriate to mention 'playing dead' in a babies book. this a book marketed for babies, i feel there are other LGB's that preserve childhood innocence. before too long they will observe the world for what it is but childhood is precious.

    These books have been, and continue to be, the best books ever written for children. They teach life lessons in such a genteel way and the artwork is wonderful. I associate these books with my wonderful childhood. My mom read them to me all the time. I was glad I could purchase them as gifts to give to my friend so she could read them to her grandchild!
