Overall I'm happy with the way this radio works in my situation. There are two issues that did bother me. The volume knob turns too easily, it would drop down to nothing if I lightly brushed against the radio with a part of my body. The other issue is the mic/headphone piece that came with the radio. Audio quality on it is terrible. I have to use a different earphone in the speaker jack to hear conversations clearly.

I am seriously impressed.

I received the BAOFENG Radio through the �鶹�� Vine program.

This radio has a ton of features.
It comes with a load of accessories, including 3 different sizes of antennas you can interchange easily.
This is a lot of technology packed into a package about the size of my cell phone, but a little thicker.
It does come with an instruction book.

I wanted this radio to take with me dirt bike riding. Kind of like an emergency radio, as I know the area I ride in is generally within the range of a repeating station of one particular channel. I figured if I had an emergency, I could get a call-out to someone.
I used to have a subscription for an emergency satellite system, but it was all a bit expensive.

It was great fun testing the radio.
It can be used as a scanner. You can even play FM radio while scanning, and it will automatically switch to a locked-in channel, then back to FM.

I admit, I am still learning how to use it. I have not found many active conversations. I believe I can use this to communicate with my standard walkie-talkies.
It may be that for certain frequencies, you actually need to have a Ham operators license to talk on this radio. This is something I have to look further into.

I think this is a really nice piece of technology in a very portable package.
