Equipped with a cardioid condenser microphone, and two distinct earpad styles that you can use according to your preference, this headset delivers the ultimate studio-quality sound for you and your streaming audience. Designed from the critically acclaimed ATH-M50x, the ATH-M50xSTS StreamSet is equipped with the same 45 mm large-aperture drivers with the addition of two sets of distinct interchangeable earpads– M50x earpads that stress audio quality and sound isolation and mesh and leatherette to emphasize breathability and comfort. Experience studio-quality articulation and intelligibility thanks to the StreamSet’s cardioid condenser microphone, adopted from the iconic 20 Series studio mics. The microphone’s design places it at the end of a flexible boom arm, keeping the mic in close proximity to your mouth, helping to reject background noise and deliver crystal-clear audio. The microphone can be easily muted quickly and efficiently simply by flipping the boom arm into the up position. The StreamSet is available in two configurations. The ATH-M50xSTS is outfitted with a 2 m (6.6') permanently attached cable with 3.5 mm (1/8") headphone input and XLR microphone output for connection to an audio interface or mixer. A 6.3 mm (1/4") snap-on adapter is also included for the headphone plug.     I've had this headset for a few days now, and while I really tried to like it, I have to say I've become fairly disappointed with it.

    The sound quality is excellent, better than my old sennheiser PC 360.

    The cables look to be of very high quality, with reinforcement on the connection to the headset which is very important. My last headset broke due to cable wear near the headset connection, so that's quite important.

    Also, I think it is important to note the cable is plastic, not braided. I've lost two mice and my last headset due to braided cables wearing out, then pinching the cable until it breaks. This headset will presumably not have this problem, although we'll see how many years it can last with continuous use.

    The only issue, has been the microphone. Specifically, the XLR connection. Considered the headset is unpowered, the microphone signal isn't going to be boosted, so an XLR connection doesn't seem to make sense to me. But, I thought I would give it a try and see if the sound quality was good. It isn't, the sound quality is garbage. Of course, that is just the raw sound quality.

    Now I have to purchase an XLR pre-amp, which I assume most of the other reviewers are using, which yes, will make the microphone sound quality much better, and it might even sound "great". But that isn't the microphone, that is the pre-amp filtering the signal, and giving it a distinctive sound, and it isn't true to the actual sound that is being recorded.

    Skip this model, buy the USB version.

    No doubt, those are M50x alright. And the microphone sounds more than decent, especially for gaming or streaming.

    The flaw? The **cable**!

    That cable is terrible, in my opinion. Non-removable, non-changeable, straight rubber cables. My best bet is that the cable will be the first thing to break on these. I don't really understand why AT didn't spend a tiny bit more time and effort on a removable cable solution. Not like it's not doable.

    Only time will tell if the cable solution they designed works well enough, but i'll most likely look for a solution to make it more durable on my end.

    This headset was amazing for the two months I had it. Unfortunately now that I’ve had it for 2 months the speakers are making a fizzing sound. Never mishandled the headset always put it back on my headphone stand. Unfortunate. Great sound quality tho while they work. Just need better cord I guess

    Audio: 5* (wish there was very slightly more base but i assume if i get a mixer i'll be able to tweak this)
    Microphone: w/o XLR 4* & If i assume i get around to get an XLR mixer, will be 5*
    Microphone lenght: Wish it was ~1cm longer.
    Headband Comfort: 1* highly recommend buying an extra headband OR roll some fabric around the headband, else your head will quickly hurt. (Rolling some fabric around it did the trick for me)
    Ear comfort: 4* Slightly too small for my ears (This will depend person-to-person, your mileage may vary)

I have never heard a headset microphone sound this good EVER. The headphones themselves also benefit from a bit of EQ. After doing so they sound absolutely marvelous for gaming/media/music as well as even for editing audio if you know how to flatten the frequency response. All in all, as long as you know you need an audio interface for these and are willing to dial in some tweaks in post processing (there are tons of videos that show you how), I would 100% recommend this headset. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

    I have been using this as my main PC headphones for games and streaming for months now with the XLR Mic connected to a low noise mixer connected to a USB line in adapter and the headphone 3.5mm connected to USB 3.5mm audio adapter on the way out. Sound quality is absolutely excellent and the Mic sounds fantastic. Really happy with this, it's so much more convenient than having a separate condenser mic / pop filter/ shock mount. with this thing angled so it's to the side of my mouth there's no pops and no vibrations from the desk. amazing quality. I sometimes regre not getting the USB version for simplicity's sake but the XLR option is more flexible in terms of being able to mix in other audio in hardware before it gets to the computer. My only gripe is the headphone 3.5mm plug and XLR are very close together meaning if you have space between your connectors like I do you might want a 3.5mm extension cable. Other nit pick is the cable is hard wired to the headset so not user replaceable. That aside, this is an absolutely excellent product. Worth every penny.

    Coming from someone who has owned at least 50 different mics in their career, this is amazing for what you get. No "gaming" headset will ever come close to the sound quality of the mic on this headset. Since this is just an m50x, i wont talk about the sound quality as you can find a hundred thousand reviews of that anywhere, but the MIC on this is amazing. is it neumann quality? no. but it is 1000x better than any other headset mic out there. i have this plugged into my audio interface with onboard DSP effects and it works so well with any EQ or compression. the ONLY thing i dont like is that it doesnt come with a windscreen, which i had to purchase separately. this will pick up any wind or breathing without a windscreen.
