- Reviewed in Canada on April 2, 2025Verified PurchaseI thought I was a smarty pants when it comes to figuring out who did what. This story is so good and you are invested in how the characters make out. Well written and full of clues but I still missed some. It is hard to put down mostly due to the anxiety of what did happen. This is my first book by this author and will not be my last. A great story and a jolt of an ending.

shocked moments! It was a great read for the beach or weekend trip! Keep you guessing!
- Reviewed in Canada on January 22, 2025Verified PurchaseI couldn’t put this book down. So many twists and turns, you will never have the ending figured out. Dandy is an incredible writer whose words flow smoothly, descriptively and keep you hooked. The characters are so well developed, I feel sad that I am at the end of this book, it’s like a goodbye to all of them!

- Reviewed in Canada on May 12, 2025Two stories that keep you wondering how they are linked. Then it's revealed and you're left aghast. A story of love and family tragedy.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 22, 2025Loved this book. Fast pace. Full of why’s, but who...this book makes you think, reflect on the scenario of what is going on. It kept me wondering Until the end, the link between the two storylines.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 28, 2025It did take me about the first quarter of the book before I could really get into it. Layout confused me in the beginning, overall good and full of cliffhangers.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolutely enjoyable work - must read
Verified PurchaseThis book is indeed unputdownable - true to the reviews I had gone through. The writing style is absolutely to my liking. The use of similes and metaphors in describing human emotions and sensations particularly stood out for me. The way the suspense keeps building up till the very end really doesn't let you put down the book. After crossing about 50 percent of the book , I think I just couldn't stop reading until I had finished it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book worth the read
Verified PurchaseReally enjoyed this book, was not sure how it would all come together as it seemed like both stories were in completely different centuries but it came together with a twist! Would read another of this authors novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twists you don’t see coming - Like a roller coaster ride in the dark
Verified PurchaseI literally devoured this book. For someone who says they ‘don’t have time to read’ I struggled to put The Wrong Daughter down.
A bit like seeing the Post Office v Mr Bates visually, brought that scandal & it’s heartbreaking impact to life, in the way the news never did, the stunning penmanship of Dandy Smith (or I guess more typing nowadays, than flourishing ink, but that doesn’t have the same ring!) not only really brings the characters to life, but evokes a real understander in the reader of the feelings of someone who had lost a sibling. We are often so focussed on the pain of a parent losing a child it was interesting to really get an insight into the lifetime ramifications of such a tragedy from a sibling’s stance.
I don’t have the words to describe the art it takes to make you feel you are there and feeling the long lasting disruption.
Smith has such a wonderful way with words, a witty, modern depiction of characters and friendships. She has such a clever use of language & description- it’s a beautiful artistic eloquence- but while maintaining the ease of reading the story, without the language being an arty description for the sake of showing skills, it just all flows, but in the style you can appreciate the beauty of the unusual sometimes quirky metaphors and enjoy the beauty of the language which just evokes the scene in such a natural and interesting way. You see it. You can place yourself there.
Aside from the truly wonderfully depicted relationships, I appreciated the plot, which as I found in her last book just twisted & turned like rollercoaster in the dark. Once started I didn’t want to get off that roller coaster until it ended. I find it’s awkward better to start her books on a quiet weekend so you don’t get torn away! I spent the novel trying to pre-empt the twists and how the 2 seemingly separate stories would come together- but I failed miserably. There is nothing predictable in the storytelling of Dandy Smith. I was enthralled to the end! My only frustration about her works, is that as a newer author I have to exert patience and wait for the next twisty gripping read! May it come soon!
