Never Flinch: A Novel
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
鶹
From master storyteller Stephen King comes an extraordinary new novel with intertwining storylines—one about a killer on a diabolical revenge mission, and another about a vigilante targeting a feminist celebrity speaker—featuring the beloved Holly Gibney and a dynamic new cast of characters.
When the Buckeye City Police Department receives a disturbing letter from a person threatening to “kill thirteen innocents and one guilty” in “an act of atonement for the needless death of an innocent man,” Detective Izzy Jaynes has no idea what to think. Are fourteen citizens about to be slaughtered in an unhinged act of retribution? As the investigation unfolds, Izzy realizes that the letter writer is deadly serious, and she turns to her friend Holly Gibney for help.
Meanwhile, controversial and outspoken women’s rights activist Kate McKay is embarking on a multi-state lecture tour, drawing packed venues of both fans and detractors. Someone who vehemently opposes Kate’s message of female empowerment is targeting her and disrupting her events. At first, no one is hurt, but the stalker is growing bolder, and Holly is hired to be Kate’s bodyguard—a challenging task with a headstrong employer and a determined adversary driven by wrath and his belief in his own righteousness.
Featuring a riveting cast of characters both old and new, including world-famous gospel singer Sista Bessie and an unforgettable villain addicted to murder, these twinned narratives converge in a chilling and spectacular conclusion—a feat of storytelling only Stephen King could pull off.
Thrilling, wildly fun, and outrageously engrossing, Never Flinch is one of King’s richest and most propulsive novels.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 5, 2025Verified PurchaseI have purchased these hardcover books for my niece for her birthday every year since Stephen King began producing them. His books represent a body of work that cannot be matched, now her son and daughter in their 20's now are experiencing what we have all known for so long,he is the GRAND MASTER.I ALSO GET HIS BOOKS ON MY KINDLE.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 17, 2025Verified PurchaseThe trauma Barbara Robinson has endured through several books is staggering! What's next...Barbara tied to railroad tracks with a maniacal villain twirling his mustache? That said, only a master like Mr. King could make me care so much. Not his best work but still so very enjoyable.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 11, 2025Verified PurchaseI love everything King writes and this book is no exception. I find Holly Gibney and her cast of characters to be very interesting indeed. It did take me a minute to completely "fall into" this book, I was likely about 20% of the way in. I'm sure how or exactly why it happened, but once I fell, I was all in. Nobody writes a finish like he does.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 5, 2025Verified PurchaseI have every Stephen King book since Carrie. I am generally not disappointed but on this one I believe Steve should have listened to his wife regarding this rather disjointed hodge podge of story. I found most of it boring. I struggled to finish it. I hope Steve is done with Holly Gibney. I loved Fairy Tale. I did not like Never Flinch.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 29, 2025Verified PurchaseAnother fabulous book. If you haven't read the previous Holly Gibney stories you might want to do that before getting into this book, there are a lot of references. At least Mr Mercedes, Finders Keepers, End of Watch and Holly would be helpful. If you can't wait, read this, then go back read those, then read this again.
Stephen King never disappoints, Always hard to put it down to get some sleep but totally worth the time spent reading.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 1, 2025Verified PurchaseAnother holly gibney book by King! Not his best book but if your a fan of Holly you will enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stephen King at his storytelling best
Verified PurchaseOnly a hundred pages in, but already I am really enjoying it, and it has all the classic Stephen King hallmarks - great characters, unstoppable plotline and very, very difficult to put down!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read
Verified PurchaseTrig has in mind killing a number of people to represent the jurors and legal people responsible for a wrong conviction of someone murdered in prison. Detective Isabelle Jaynes, investigating the early murders, asks her friend Holly Gibney for intuitive input. At the same time Kate McCay, pro-choice advocate and comedic rabble-rousing performer, engages a reluctant Holly as a bodyguard after there are pro-life attempts on her life. And one of the venues will see the comeback of legendary soul-singer Sista Bessie.
This is a straightforward crime novel, with a terrific race against time climax, winding the separate threads together. There are some elements of coincidence involved, but King's writing is so good that these are easily accepted. Unusually for King, there is a fairly strong and obvious (pro-choice) subtext, although this is watered down by the fact that its main proponent isn't very sympathetic.
It had one sequence - Holly watching a performance on stage - which was beautifully emotional.

2.0 out of 5 stars Anche basta, Steve!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stephen King - still amazing

No spoilers
I’ve read all of Stephen King’s books on Holly Gibney. I love Holly’s character, I feel I can relate to her quirks.
As usual, Stephen Kings work here on characters is great. I felt connected to the characters, and felt invested in their stories.
There were several reoccurring characters from the other “Holly” books. These excellently felt consistent, and their character development felt natural.
New characters also felt real, and I was excited to learn more about them. I always feel like Stephen king shines when it comes to character development.
I give a slight ding due to an unlikely and a bit difficult to believe, circumstance in the book. I’m a bit picky, and other readers may not feel this way. I’d give 4.5 if I could.
There was also a twist I didn’t expect from the book, which was a fun addition.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this book. I stayed engaged, and I loved getting back in Holly’s world.
