I just recently returned the Audeze Maxwell headset, because of too low volume output. But decided to try another Audeze Maxwell to see if I had gotten a dud the 1st time. Here is what I found on the new Audeze Maxwell.

1: Sound Output is STILL too low.... if you use ONLY the Audeze HQ pre-set Sound Profiles.
My Fix is to run Audeze HQ set to Audeze.... and run Dolby Atmos on Custom Preset 1, Sound Virtualizer = On, Volume Leveler = On. In the Custom 1 Mixer Setting you can raise each of the 10 Sliders up and you WILL finally get some real Volume from this Headset. For me it came Alive! I keep mine pinned Equal across all 10. Don`t over do it fyi. ;p A Db or 2 increase for all 10 Sliders goes a long way.

2: Mic on Discord sounded pretty bad.
My Fix was to swap the Mic out, resulting in an immediate improvement in sound quality.

3: Wireless Quality is very nice.

4: The Battery Usage on the Maxwell is Outstanding!

5: Build Quality seems robust...... so far.

I have now given the Audeze Maxwell a Score of 5 Stars. And Audezes Savior is based upon my using the Dolby Atmos App along WITH Audeze HQ. Without Dolby Atmos, I`d have returned the Maxwell.... due to its Firmware hamstringing this Headsets Output Volume and Head Room.. So Audeze? Dolby Atmos saved your Headset. Ya owe them 1. ;p

If you're like me your old gaming headset just broke, or you think it's just time for an upgrade. You've probably scoured the internet for reviews, probably looked at some Senheisser or Beyerdynamic headphones, or maybe some Logitech or Steelseries headsets, but in the end you just cant make a decision.

I've been through multiple different headsets this last month and these were easily the best in both audio quality and microphone quality. Of course you can get better microphone quality from a standalone mic, but in terms of headset microphones this one cannot be beaten. The spatial audio is amazing for games like Rainbow Six Siege and CS with the "footsteps" preset in the Audeze HQ App and with the app you can make movies and youtube sound great as well.

Disclaimer: The app is super easy to use and the presets on there are well tuned so theres no need to make your own eq settings like so many other "Gaming" Headsets require you to do to get half decent sound

Con:
The only con I have with this headset is that my ears touch the part where audio comes out on the inside of the earpad and my ears also get real sweaty with the all leather earpads. This may not be a problem for everyone but if it is for you, you can buy replacement earpads from Wicked Cushions specifically made for the Audeze Maxwell. There earpads are amazing and made this already great headset perfect.

Conclusion:
If you've watched countless videos and looked at a bunch of "Top headsets 2024" articles like me and found nothing that you like, trust me these are the best on the market. The only way I see you getting better audio quality is getting open back headphones from Senheisser or Beyerdynamic and a standalone mic. But for a headset this is the best I've found without a doubt.

For those that don't know the difference:
- Headsets have a micrphone attached
- Headphones dont have a microphone

Well, don't be a dummy like me and think that the Xbox headset that also lists PS as a platform will also work; the blue tooth dongle is not at all set up for PS. So I returned that headset after checking directly with Audeze and ordered these. They are truly excellent. All the reviews on YT are correct. Much better than Astro A40 or A50, wired and wireless and careful MixAmp settings. These are fine for me with default EQ out of the box, with PS5 audio calibration. Playing MGSV and just superb sound, no latency, great footsteps. Even heard the 1 minute beep on the FOB countdown timer. Mind you, I'm 72. Highly recommended and worth the price.

I love the sound signature! It's an amazing headphone for gaming. It's got it's foot in the door for Audiophile level sound. I own the Audeze LCD-X .. so I am aware of how heavy Audeze likes to make their headphones. Lets skip the pros.. straight to the Cons. BTW all firmware were updated, for dongle and headphone.

Cons:
1. Too heavy for long gaming sessions. I tend to game roughly 2-8hrs.. and just 2hrs in and it's too much.

2. It gets hot! Even got some after market pads that are supposed to be cooling from Wicked Cushions.. but that made the headset even heavier!! and it still heated up anyways..

3. At times the sound will pop when using. Just a loud POP.. feels like something may break in the driver.

4. Other times the sound does this weird electronic warble.. ruins the experience while listening to music.. or watching streams / Youtube. I know it's the headphone, because it's easily verifiable by replaying the specific part of the song or movie.

5. When on the USB dongle in wireless mode, there is a 1-2 second delay when the next song plays.. so you miss 1-2 seconds of the beginning of the song. It does that when skipping through music / streams / beginning of Youtube videos.. etc. Once again.. easily verifiable.

6. When on the USB dongle.. there are some days it will just act up.. and the dongle will keep reconnecting.. like in the middle of playback.. the bluetooth will just drop.. and reconnect "USB dongle connected" over and over. Very frustrating.

I love the closed wireless part of it, the long battery life.. the amazing sound quality.. however.. my return window was closing, and sadly there are way too many cons, and they cost a decent amount. So I have to return them.. and yes.. I miss them already. Would definitely buy again if there is a 2nd version of these headphones.
