This is a compact multi-function meter that comes nicely packaged in a zippered carrying case. Inside the case is the meter, a set of 3-foot long probe leads and a set of AAA batteries. Note that to replace batteries, you need to unscrew a cover on the back. I find this inconvenient and would have preferred a latching cover. But, since the meter is encased in a red shroud to provide extra protection, I found that you can leave the retaining screw off. I worry that 2 AAA batteries will not provide a ton of runtime so this way it'll be easier to change them out when you need to.

Overall the device performs as expected. When you turn it on, it enters an automatic mode where it tries to determine what you're measuring. I tested it on batteries for DC voltage, and stuck the probe tips into an outlet for AC. It also can be placed in a non-contact mode where you can place the back of the unit against a wire to determine if it is live or not, and I tested this on a power cord. All seems to work well, though it does take an extra second or two for the unit to figure out what you're trying to measure and show you the value.

My only criticism is that it needs a manual toggle mode in addition to the auto mode. This is most evident when trying to measure items with small resistances, where the unit will waffle between showing you the resistance or beeping to tell you that there's continuity. There are just some things where the display will appear to glitch out because it's trying to figure out what to measure. This is made worse if you're trying to poke the probe leads into something that's hard to get to, so the combination of intermittent contact plus the unit taking a second or so to decide what to do every time you make that contact, makes it frustrating. For my uses, this should be an infrequent scenario.

The unit has an LCD backlight function and can also activate a tiny flashlight on the back, should you need a bit of light.

A welcome addition to my toolbox, but be aware of its limitations.

Great multimeter, does a really good job. For it's price, this is definitely a 5/5 top tier product that does everything you'd hope it should do. Having said that - at the time of writing this this multimeter sells for under $25, so it is not trying to compete with professional grade instruments - it is certainly not in that category, and you shouldn't expect pro-grade speed and functionality from it. If you are entering your first year of electrical engineering at university, you might want to look a little higher up the price ladder for something a bit more fancy. For most infrequent home-users however this should absolutely do the job for the small handful of times you'll need a multimeter, the accuracy seems good, and it is built well enough to last for a while, especially if you store it in the provided case it comes with.
