- Reviewed in Canada on October 17, 2024Verified PurchaseOver the last 10 years I've always pressed bearing on a 20 ton press, 10's usually won't do a seized one. Was convinced by a co-worker to try this kit. It works fantastic and only takes a couple times to be efficient with it. Surprisingly if the impact gun doesn't budge the bearing, I put a 6 foot bar and give it a crank. Bolt, threads, cups all hold up very nicely ( USE LUBE ). Astro tools always beats tool truck prices and their kits are usually far more expanded. Good if you don't have room for a press as well. Woo
- Reviewed in Canada on February 17, 2024Verified PurchaseAs an automotive mechanic I’ve used this set a handful of times so far. Bought for home but have used it a work also. So far never had an issue tackling the job. I make sure the bolt is greased before any job. Also have used as an adapter set when using the shop press. For the price it paid for itself in my books.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 3, 2018Verified PurchaseAs has already been stated by others, this is a quality kit. After carefully considering a number of others, I chose this one primarily because of the hardened bolt. While researching various kits, it would've been very helpful if the ad provided the same info as what's clearly stated on page 1 of the instruction booklet (attached here for everyone's benefit).
The kit arrived with a bit of damage to the blow-molded case, but it's minor and only on the inside, so no big deal. Frankly, I'm surprised it wasn't more damaged considering how heavy each of the dies is and how much the box must've been thrown around before it arrived.
The tool worked great on the rear axle of my 2007 Mercedes GL320 CDI. Tip for those doing the GL bearings - use a grinder to cut a notch in the die so that the ABS sensor need not be removed, because it will surely break on the way out! Note that doing this voids your tool's warranty, so decide ahead of time if it is worth modding in your circumstance.
For the benefit of those more familiar with the metric system, you'll need a 32mm socket and/or wrench to work with this tool.
I couldn't be happier with this purchase. It made a nasty job easy!

- Reviewed in Canada on October 26, 2018Verified PurchaseLet me start off saying this a quality kit as others have stated on here also I want to apologize beforehand on how long this is. I own a smaller universal kit with roughly ¼ of what this kit has and I paid almost the same price for it so knowing that now I already know this is a fantastic price and I already own other Astro Pneumatic Tools so I know they made good quality. I am professional mechanic by trade so I have experience using a wheel bearing removal tool but from a DIY stand point it can get quite confusing removing and installing it. Starting off the kit comes with a variety of different adapters for many different vehicles. As of owning this kit for little over a month now and used it 10-15 times I have not run into any vehicle that it hasn’t been able to do. There might be that odd vehicle that you’ll need to get creative but having somewhat of the right adapters is key but you can always custom make to suit your needs plus all the adapters come in a blow molded case which I LOVE cases because I love to keep things organized as you know you are missing something if you are.
Now this kit is designed to work on the vehicle without having to remove the spindle because face it, it is a pain in the a** and who wants to do more work. Usually when you remove the spindle you’ll need to remove use a shop press to press out and in the bearing but this does it all on vehicle without needing to use a press (most of the time.) I say that because some are not that easy and can be difficult which may need a press but anyway this kit makes quick work of it.
The first time I used this set was at home as a friend wanted their rear wheel bearing done on their 2000 Honda CRV. I forgot to take pictures of the process for the first time but it was fairly simple as this set does come with somewhat vague instructions in the set but it will be different in your application. It was seized so it took me a while to complete it but got the job done. I do recommend some tips while doing it so I will state a few;
- If you have never done a wheel bearing on the type of vehicle you are working on, I recommend either google, or Youtube that way you kind of know what you are up against or you can get have at it and go all ape on it < that was joke.
- Lube the threads beforehand, grease or penetrating oil will do.
- Spray penetrating on all parts before starting, let it soak as it may assist with removing.
- I recommend an impact for removing because it will make quicker work it on it and the impact motion of the gun may assist in removing it but installing take your time.
- Installing, make sure you are going in straight and not on an angle. If you are back out and try again.
- I have a few more but won’t go through all of them but I think most with get the point. Those are just for some that have never done one before.
For anyone that may be wondering the size of socket you need is a 32mm (metric) and 1 ¼ (SAE). If using an impact I strongly recommend impact but if just using a breaker bar then chrome would do.
Now I want to state something! I don’t care if you don’t read any of this review but read this. Don’t go and buy a cheap, unbranded that you never heard of because chances or most likely the kit is cheap and will just fail and break. I get it to save some money and thinking you’ll only use it once but trust me because you spend a little more and get better quality and may save you in the end (money and also your life.) There is a lot of potential energy that is in this tool when you are pressing it out and when you buy cheap and it decides to fail it coming at YOU, no doubts about it. I worked in a shop and a co-worker bought a cheap kit on Ebay for less than $30 thinking it’s going to save him money but one day he went to use it and was pressing out a bearing and the metal cup exploded into pieces and pieces cracked his safety glasses and cut his face. His safety glasses saved his eyes but his face was cut. Today he swears that he will never but cheap again and if you think I am kidding I am not. I am not trying to worry anyone but it all depends on the quality but a lot of force is being exerted. So I 100% recommend this set to anyone from professional to DIY because this is a decent set and has a lot to offer for a good price.
- Reviewed in Canada on October 14, 2024Verified PurchaseHad my doubts. Worked flawlessly.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 25, 2023Verified PurchaseChanged the bearing on a 2011 Ford Escape. Worked well and had no issues. I did not use an impact gun, just two 11/4" wrenches for removal and install. The hardest part of this job was getting the bearing race off the hub. I used a grinder on an angle and chattered it with a chisel. For the money this is the best kit out there.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 10, 2022Verified PurchaseMy package arrived earlier than expected and in perfect condition, Thanks to the vendor, Canadian Mechanic. The components are very heavy duty. Some people complained of the quality of the bolt. I lubricated the bolt well and found that it worked flawlessly. I was easily able to extract two rear bearings from my Kia Sportage without any problem, not using any air tools. I find it very hard to believe that this tool could be damaged with proper use. This is great value and I would highly recommend it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is THE tool you need for removal and installation of Front End Bearings
Verified PurchaseI read many reviews of various sets of bearing removal/installation kits. This Astro Set was a little more expensive then some of the others, but the last thing I wanted to deal with was a kit failing in the middle of a bearing removal or installation. What makes this kit better then the others?
1) Hardened steel
2) the thickness and thread sizing on the main bolt (which is HUGE)
3) has the parts to do virtually any and all front bearings of passenger motor vehicles.
My advice - watch some how to videos on youtube so you know what you are doing, grease the heck out of the bolt and washers to ensure you have smooth motion, and always take your time and ensure you are doing it correctly. Lastly if possible, get a decent Impact Wrench --- using a ratchet is possible, but you are going to hate life. Both the end of the bolt and the "nut" are 1 1/4" diameter. Be sure to have a wrench and a socket to accommodate both ends.
This set put me out around $100 -- my mechanic was going to charge me $277 per side for LABOR to do my hubs and Bearings. A slide hammer kit was about $60 -- I ended up saving myself about $500 in LABOR. It isn't a difficult job, but it does take time and HUB removal is a bit of a pain in the butt, but totally possible for the DIY mechanic with this kit and a decent slide hammer.
