I like Art Resin because it doesn't give off harmful VOCs, so you don't have to wear a mask when using it. It's quite thick and is meant to be a doming resin, not a casting resin - they say the maximum thickness you should pour is 1/4" - but I've used it for casting in layers up to 1/2" each and it has worked well. There are some bubbles, but you can minimize these quite a bit by (a) waiting 5¨C10 minutes between mixing and pouring, and (b) popping bubbles with a torch. I prefer Art Resin for casting also, because it's thick enough to provide some support for inclusions. I'm casting metal keys at the moment, which are fairly heavy and lumpy; with the Art Resin I can pour a layer of resin, let it sit for about 2 hours until it's the consistency of taffy, squish the keys into it where I want them, and add the next layer of resin. [In the photos, the box with the Haunted Mansion key in the centre shows what it looks like after I've poured the first layer and squished the keys into it, but haven't added the top layer yet.] The 'proper' casting resins are so watery I would probably have to use fishing line to suspend the keys. Art Resin is also thick enough that lighter inclusions like glitter don't settle out too badly, even in something with tall, narrow sides, like a trinket box. That really helps make your design come out even.

    I absolutely love art resin. Its super easy to work with, no scent, and works well in silicone molds. It is very expensive, also unless you have a torch or heat gun to remove bubbles then you will have bubbles in it. Unfortunately you can't torch a closed mold. I have been placing my closed mold infront of my vent so the heat has helped remove some of the bubbles but not all. I really like working with this product and I have been painting it so the bubbles don't matter. I also use a krylon matte or gloss sealant to seal in the paint. I will definitely be buying more I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

    This provides a clear smooth finish to my painted rocks. I had tried a different product (Magic Resin) that seemed like I would get 2x the amount for about the same price HOWEVER the product worked terrible on my rocks..it left little divets even after doing 2 coats. The Art Resin does not do that and gives fabulous coverage after only 1 coat. So I HIGHLY recommend this product. I have also used it in molds to make little glow in the dark stones to add to my rocks (like the 2 in the pics) and it also works great for that.

    Art Resin is also thick enough that lighter inclusions like glitter don't settle out too badly, even in something with tall, narrow sides, like a trinket box. That really helps make your design come out even.
