Thermal Paste
Features
- Made With 99.9% Pure Silver: Arctic Silver 5 uses three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer.
Arctic Silver 5 AS5-3.5G Thermal Paste
Thermal Paste
Its unique high-density filling of micronized silver and enhanced thermally conductive ceramic particles, Arctic Silver 5 provides a new level of performance and stability. Available at Arctic Silver resellers worldwide. Arctic Silver 5 is the reference premium thermal compound. Arctic Silver 5 is optimized for a wide range of bond lines between modern high-power CPUs and high performance heatsinks or water-cooling solutions.
Arctic Silver 5 contains over 88% thermally conductive filler by weight. In addition to micronized silver, Arctic Silver 5 also contains sub-micron zinc oxide, aluminum oxide and boron nitride particles.

Performance
3 to 12 degrees centigrade lower CPU full load core temperatures than standard thermal compounds or thermal pads when measured with a calibrated thermal diode imbedded in the CPU core.
Coverage Area: A 3.5 gram syringe contains enough compound to cover at least 15 to 25 small CPU cores, or 6 to 10 large CPU cores, or 2 to 5 heat plates. At a layer 0.003" thick, the 3.5 gram syringe will cover approximately 16 square inches.

Controlled Triple-Phase Viscosity
Arctic Silver 5 does not contain any silicone. The suspension fluid is a proprietary mixture of advanced polysynthetic oils that work together to provide three distinctive functional phases. As it comes from the syringe, Arctic Silver 5's consistency is engineered for easy application. During the CPU's initial use, the compound thins out to enhance the filling of the microscopic valleys and ensure the best physical contact between the heatsink and the CPU core. Then the compound thickens slightly over the next 50 to 200 hours of use to its final consistency designed for long-term stability. (This should not be confused with conventional phase change pads that are pre-attached to many heatsinks. Those pads melt each time they get hot then re-solidify when they cool.
The viscosity changes that Arctic Silver 5 goes through are much more subtle and ultimately much more effective.)

- Reviewed in Canada on June 21, 2023Verified PurchaseI recently had the pleasure of using Arctic Silver thermal paste for my computer build, and I must say it exceeded my expectations in every way. This incredible product has proven to be a game-changer when it comes to maintaining optimum temperatures for my processor.
Arctic Silver's thermal paste boasts exceptional thermal conductivity, which ensures efficient heat transfer between the CPU and the heatsink. This quality is crucial in preventing overheating, as it effectively dissipates heat, keeping the processor cool even under heavy loads. I noticed a noticeable decrease in temperature compared to my previous thermal paste, resulting in improved system stability and longevity.
One aspect that truly impressed me was the ease of application. The syringe-style packaging allows for precise and controlled application, ensuring that the paste is evenly spread across the processor surface. It also comes with clear and detailed instructions, making the entire process hassle-free, even for beginners. Additionally, the paste's non-conductive properties guarantee that it won't cause any accidental short circuits, providing peace of mind during installation.
Arctic Silver thermal paste exhibits excellent longevity. Unlike some other thermal pastes that tend to dry out or degrade over time, this product maintains its effectiveness for an extended period. This means less maintenance and reapplication, saving both time and money in the long run, as Arctic Thermal Paste is made with the best compound to keep your processor cool for a long time!
Another significant advantage of Arctic Silver is its compatibility with a wide range of processors and heatsinks. Whether you have an Intel or AMD CPU, or you're using an aftermarket cooler, this thermal paste is designed to work flawlessly across various platforms, ensuring a seamless fit.
In conclusion, Arctic Silver thermal paste is a must-have for any computer enthusiast or professional builder seeking superior thermal performance. Its remarkable thermal conductivity, ease of application, longevity, and compatibility make it an exceptional choice. I highly recommend Arctic Silver to anyone in need of reliable thermal management for their CPU.

- Reviewed in Canada on October 22, 2023Verified PurchaseThis has been my go-to TIM for years, since 1998! Whenever anyone goes to the best-knows computer store in town, and asks for paste, and wants the "good stuff," then this is what they are given!
Arctic Silver is an old standard for a reason! It may not be the best (IC Diamond), but it is better than the stuff that comes with the PC, and it will work well for years and years!
The most important thing to remember, is DO NOT SPREAD WHEN APPLYING! Spreading creates an uneven surface that causes air to be trapped when putting on the heatsink. Just put a blob in the middle of square dies, or a line down the center of rectangular dies, and apply the heatsink. It will spread out to cover the die without trapping air. Do not lift it off to check!

- Reviewed in Canada on July 24, 2016Verified PurchaseI paid for premium shipping but it was shipped as "regular", took 2 weeks. Maybe I did not understand something though.
While waiting I understood that my fan was oriented wrong way and metal chips were on the processor surface after I drilled the case. Now my processor does not overheat even with white lithium grease (bicycle chain grease) used as the "heat conductive paste"
Nearly zero gap, no debris may eliminate a need for a silver. I'll make a use of the product if my next project has crooked processor / sing interface.
- Reviewed in Canada on October 17, 2016Verified PurchaseI have been using AS5 TIM (Thermal Interface Material) for about 10 years.
If you were to google Thermal Interface Material Comparisons and tests, you would find that AS5 always comes out solidly in the top 5% of TIMs.
This TIM, when allowed its curing time, can perform as well as the best TIMs on the market, including Shin Etsu.
Unlike what some people may say, this TIM is not electrically conductive. Anyone who says it is doesn't know what they are talking about. According to the manufacturer's website, AS5 is slightly capacitive and that's it. Not conductive at all. This means, as long as you don't go smearing it all over the motherboard, and only use enough for the job (most common mistake is using too much TIM, google it) then this TIM will cause zero issues.
When you apply it, use a BB sized blob in the centre of the CPU. Slightly more is OK, but do not over apply. When you install the cooler and turn the computer on, the pressure and heat will make the TIM spread.
For AS5, you will get excellent results right away. For the absolute best results, you will need to use you computer normally over a 1 to 2 week period. AS5 requires about a 40 hour curing time. Allowing the curing time will further reduce your temperature by about another 3 degrees C.
As a professional computer technician I use this TIM exclusively at work on my customer's computers and laptops as well as on my own equipment at home. You can't go wrong with this TIM.

Verified PurchaseArctic Silver- Age old name & professionals choice for any high end machine. Had its name in mind since years. So when the need came ordered one.
Product comes in open poly packaging. There is neither any blister pack nor any seal. Appears like product is imported in bulk & then sold in loose packaging. Only a Zip lock poly bag with a syringe containing 3.5 AS5 compund.
But it appears genuine & performs well.
**
PROS
**
1. Its old & trusted name in thermal paste world
2. Will bring down temperatures by 10-20 degrees. More important is system will be stable under load & run for longer durations at higher frequencies.
3. Qty is also good. If applied in right qty without wastage, it may last for approx 4-5 repaste jobs, on cpu & gpu.
**
CONS
**
Only con being, though not electrically conductive its slightly capacitive, and if not applied carefully, will spread outside to small components on die & create trouble.
**
USAGE SCENARIO
**
I used it in my old Dell XPS L502x & Inspiron 15R (all stats are wrt xps one), to replace stock thermal paste on CPU & GPU.
CPU throttling due to excess core temperatures 95 Deg + on load. On even small load, it shooted up to 100 & then throttling will occur.
High temp were due to dust accumulation on vents, fin & old expired thermal paste.
*
HOW TO
*
1. Using cleaning solution (eg isopropyl alcohol available at chemist shop) & swab, clean out old paste. Be careful. Clean dies to mirror finish.
2. On square die, apply a drop. Neither too big, nor too small. Will depend on die size & your guess. On rectangular die, apply a line. When heatsink is pressed on to die, due to pressure it auto spreads consistently. Its preferred method, i did not go for spread method as it may sometimes leave air bubbles which is a no go.
*pic attached with illustration on square/rectangular die & real application on rectangular die
*
BEFORE APPLICATION
*
Cold boot, no apps running, core temp was 63 Deg, CPU at 800mhz
On full load via prime 95
After 2 min 95 deg & cpu at 1700mhz
After 5 mins 95 deg & cpu at 1500mhz
After 15 mins 95 deg & cpu at 1100mhz
Fan: at full rpm, continuously whirring.
****
AFTER APPLICATION
****
Cold boot, no apps running, after 15 mins core temp was 50 Deg, CPU at 2400mhz
On full load via prime 95
After 2 min 79 deg & cpu at 2900mhz
After 5 mins 82 deg & cpu at 2700mhz
After 15 mins 82 deg & cpu at 2600mhz
Fan: less noise and triggers less. Very lesso n high rpm
So it appears like, huge difference in performance & power saving!! Its been a few days after application, n laptop seems to run cool & there is visible boost in performace on load.
***
FINAL VERDICT
***
So getting AS5 was not a bad investment! You can surely go for it. Just be careful in its application as though not electrically conductive, its capacitive & if not used in desired qty may spread out to small components on die & create trouble.
Also be patient after application as it takes around 200 hours to cure or to reach its full capacity. Thats burn in time for AS5.
