I’ve been making this with a 6 year old (Yes I know this is out of the age range, I am doing it with her though), and I think this kit is pretty good for itching that “I wanna build” itch. They get to see something they built themselves, and seeing the robot move really does add that extra “wow” factor. While I shouldn’t really give any advice on age range for this toy, I don’t really see how an 8 year old would be able to do this themselves.

So here’s what I like about this solar robot kit:
-They’re moderately difficult to build. Not too difficult, but not too easy either
-Really cool different robots
-pretty fun to build
-the instructions are good enough

And here’s what I don’t like about it:
-the pieces are pretty fragile.
-Probably for a much older kid than advertised.
-You need to cut the pieces out. You’ll probably need something like flush cutters to help out

So the only real thing that I don’t really like about this kit is that some of the things that you get, are really thing plastic. Meaning they’re very likely to break, and I really don’t think they’re all that durable. I’d probably put this on the much higher end of the age spectrum, closer to 10-12, rather than 8 or 9. If you are going to give this to an 8 or 9 year old, my best advice is that you do it together.

Overall I am pleased with the kit. It’s honestly a great learning kit if your kids really like building stuff. I don’t think there’s anything I’d really say is terrible about it, and I would definitely recommend it if you’d like to build something alongside your kids.
