Clothing was hardly a practical necessity in North Africa and what is today the Middle East. Often a luxury item in these warm, humid climates, it became more essential as people's lives improved socially and economically. But even then, the drapery was light and tended to accent the body's shape rather than conceal it.     This book is the best on the subject of ancient fashions I have managed to peel from the kindle store.
    The author spent much time figuring out how and why garments were made and draped around the body. I was amazed to see how primitive clothing was in ancient times (right up till the Roman Empire). In most cultures the main garment basically was no more than a sheet.
    The book also talks about the use of jewelry, and about the way cultures of the Ancient Middle East interacted (as far as fashion is concerned). It also looks at the reason why certain dressing habits developed (such as pants in Persia).
    I think this book is a must for any author and/or film director indulging in historical fiction beyond the Roman Empire.

    I like how it dives down into Egyptian different classes with illustration how to recreate the clothings. I just wished it did the same with other civilizations especially Persians. I started get into recreating Historical clothing and i wanted to find a book that illustrated Ancient Persia’s clothing customs. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.
