    Amazing Grace is one of those movies that I could watch again and again. Few movies make me cry but this one just about did it.
    I believe the movie is historically close to reality. The acting is very good, the costumes beautiful.
    And oh the inspiring story of this man, his faith, how it translated into actions, all of that without being cheesy or overly Christian.
    In the end it¡¯s hands down a 5 star movie, one that¡¯s totally worth buying.

    A very powerful UK historical movie drama based on the life of William Wilberforce (Iaon Gruffudd) who championed the anti slavery movement in the UK in the late 1700's and into the early 1800's . The movie chronicles the obstacles of the abolitionists and Wilbur's leadership and finishes with the passage by the British Parliament to outlaw the transport of slaves against all odds. One of the traffickers was John Newton, (Albert Finney) who became a born again Christian and wrote the Christian lament "Amazing Grace". This is a compelling story of compassion and morality led by the single minded commitment by one man to change the face of humanity in England (and the world). A must see for history buffs.

    Honestly, I was looking to rent, but after years of inability to do so, just bought the movie. It's old now, 2006(?), but is based on a true story about ending slavery in England, and unflinchingly highlights the worst and best of our species. The hero - who by all accounts actually was one - had to learn politics while retaining his integrity. Some of our modern leaders could learn a lesson. Beautifully written, acted, directed and photographed. A must-see movie.

    Wow, I didn't know what to expect when I bought this movie. I saw a preview and bought it unseen. The movie was terrific and based on facts. I was not alive when slaves were brought over from Africa, but I feel sad, disgusted and embarrassed by what my ancestors did to these people. God created all men as equals and this is one man's fight to free the slaves. Thank God for him and President Ab Lincoln. Slavery never should have happened.

Ambientato nell'Inghilterra della fine del XVIII secolo, ripercorre i lunghi anni che hanno portato alla vittoria di un principio sacrosanto come l'abolizione della schiavit¨´, in parallelo con la stessa battaglia sostenuta in America da Thomas Jefferson, ricordata nel bel film "Amistad".
    Bella l'ambientazione di interni ed esterni, ottima la recitazione degli attori, bravo e "personalissimo" come sempre Benedict Cumberbatch nel ruolo impegnativo di Pitt il Giovane. Buone la sceneggiatura e la regia, anche se l'arco temporale molto ampio in cui l'intera vicenda si svolge, richiede una particolare attenzione da parte dello spettatore per la esatta collocazione degli eventi e dei riferimenti storici. Una vera sfida contro il tempo, che scorre inesorabilmente in fretta sul grande schermo. Complessivamente un bellissimo film da rivedere volentieri.

    If you love this film you will also like 'They don't want us here' by Kevin Watson. You can buy it on Â鶹Çø only. It is based on a true story set in England where the author has gone through his own middle passage. It makes painful reading while reminding us that little has changed where racism is concerned! You owe it to yourself to get this book if you enjoyed .

    The scenario:

    The writer has kept diaries on his experiences while living under Bromford Housing Association. What could only be described as a slow psychological hanging where each day he was subjected to harassment, which finally led to arson attempt on his life and property by his white neighbours. The racism he experienced became tucked under carpet by Bromford Housing Association

    Eventually after years of hell and endurance; he was only free from this nightmare hell because his neighbour was put into prison for nearly four years after trying to set fire to his flat. Kevin contacted the black 'Voice' newspaper who ran an article. now Bromford Housing Association had nothing to lose! how dare he contact the voice newspaper exposing this racist institution?

    Kevin Watson thought his nightmare was over; but it was only just beginning! Bromford had moved racist neighbours who would continue this reign of terror; but only this time; slowly torturing Kevin to the point of hopelessness, and thoughts of suicide!

    In the end what could only be described as provocative and racially motivated; Bromford created situations where they conspired with Kevin¡¯s racist neighbours in which to drive him finally out of his home! In the end Kevin sandwiched between Bromford refusal to deal with the racist abuse, and threats from his white neighbours; while denial from the Staffordshire police trying to deal with the case; Kevin would end up running from his home for his dear life away from his neighbours who were using killer dogs as weapons!

    His mental health rapidly declined as a result of institutional racism and its¡¯ failure in which to want to tackled it. Once Kevin left his home he thought that the curse of Bromford was left behind not realising that Bromford wanted to destroy him even if it meant lying or even breaking the law! They wanted him silenced, and would stoop to any level to see that even if it meant lying and fabrication and even falsifying police records!
