From the manufacturer

Amadeus triumphs as gripping human drama, sumptuous period epic, glorious celebration of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ¨C and as the winner of eight 1984 Academy Awards*, including Best Picture (produced by Saul Zaentz), Actor (F. Murray Abraham), Director (Milos Forman) and Adapted Screenplay (Peter Shaffer). It¡¯s 1781 and Antonio Salieri (Abraham) is the competent court composer to Emperor Joseph II. When Mozart (Oscar* nominee Tom Hulce) arrives at court, Salieri is horrified to discover that the godlike musical gifts he desires for himself have been bestowed on a bawdy, impish jokester. Mad with envy, he plots to destroy Mozart by any means. Perhaps even murder.

F. Murray Abraham _- Antonio Salieri

F. Murray Abraham has decades of notable work on Broadway, off-Broadway, television and films to his credit. Early stage work brought him numerous accolades. A string of small _but meaty roles in feature _films paved the way for his most famous performance: that of Antonio Salieri in 1984¡¯s Amadeus, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Tom Hulce - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Upon graduating from the North Carolina School of the Arts, Tom Hulce headed for New York and was eventually cast in the coveted role of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the film version of Amadeus. _It would give Hulce his most famous role. Nominated for _the Academy Award for Best Actor for Amadeus, he has since juggled an impressive career.

Elizabeth Berridge - Constanze Mozart

Born in New Rochelle, New York, Berridge began acting _in television commercials and daytime serials. She landed _her first starring role in the horror film The Funhouse. On TV, she was a cast member of the series The John Larroquette Show and The Powers That Be. In 1989 she won the Dramalogue Award for Best Lead _Actress for Lulu at the La _Jolla Playhouse in Southern California.

Milos Forman - Director

With Amadeus, director _Milos Forman allied with _producer Saul Zaentz for the second time in his career after the two scored a critical and commercial triumph with One Flew Over the Cuckoo¡¯s Nest. Born in Caslave, Czechoslovakia, he cut his teeth making documentaries and then moved on to feature films. Two of his early Czech-language efforts, Loves of a Blonde and The _Fireman¡¯s Ball, were nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.

This is a tremendous movie, well made and well acted. Much of what is shown in the movie isn't historically accurate, but this isn't a documentary.
