    I heard the buzz like everyone that James Cameron had destroyed another one of this films through heavy grain removal and smoothing of the picture (T2). Now usually I love grain in my movies and enjoy the crisp look of film. However I feel for the most part, the crisp or detail here is still intact without the grain. With that said, yes there are a couple scenes which are brief where Ripley or someone else will have some glossy skin and just look unnatural. But this only happened a couple times briefly for me.

    I was amazed at the incredible detail and how clear it was! It was like watching a NEW version of the movie I hadn't seen before. Now seeing NEW details in scenes I had never noticed previously. Looking like the film was shot yesterday.

    Now I know some out there don't want Aliens to look like it was shot yesterday and I sympathize with you. Most of the time I would agree. And I though the previous Blu ray release was a decent release. That one was full of grain, It also had a blueish hue to it that I think served the film well atmospherically.

    The only issue (Other than those two brief moments of glossy faces), is the Film now has a teal blue hue to it which I wasn't a big fan of. Now you get use to it of course but when you go back to the previous blu ray, you can see the difference is night and day with the color grading. And I much more prefer the blue hue in the previous blu ray vs the new teal blue hue in the 4K. The trade off is that the picture quality is incredibly clear with immense detail and the clearest version of Aliens that exists. After seeing the 4K, however it may be difficult to go back to the blu ray since its packed full of grain. But if you prefer that than definitely hold on to the blu ray or look for that version to own.

    I am an Aliens fan and I was just curious about what all the controversy was about. I myself are a stickler for High quality transfers and with most older films, grain is important.

    My advice is if you are really on the fence about it, or don't want to spend the money, borrow it off a friend or family member and see for yourself if you like it. Or I believe the 4K version is on Disney + so you can see it there.

    I thin regardless of your point of view, it's worth checking out.

    Aliens is a visual feast !! Of course, if you’re like me, you’ve had this flick on every available media since its initial release. This movie will serve how all other 4Ks are judged. I received at the same time I received The Abyss and even Abyss could not stand up to it’s par excellence though I had waited for The Abyss to be remastered and re-released onto (at very least) Bluray. Buy this and thank me later !!!!! And

    Aliens has been in my top five movies for over thirty years now. Having recorded my first copy off the tv in my early teens. Then I purchased the VHS and then multiple DVDS. It was my first DVD before I even had a DVD player! It looks good, but in a different way than say Alien 4K looks good. Fantastic to finally have a 4K copy in my collection.
    It’s worthwhile buying, not my first choice on how it was cleaned up, but the filmstock wasn’t the same quality as say The Shining film stock, so Cameron’s approach may have been the best option, T2 was not I’m sure! 😉.
    I will always wonder what a fresh camera negative scan with a sympathetic restoration would look like. I’m certainly keeping the Bluray and may rotate back and fourth with my annual viewing. I assume this will be the last physical copy that will ever be available……….

    Honestly wasn’t sure how I would feel about this release. I’ve seen the 1990 special edition multiple times and it’s easily one of my favorite movies of all time. I always love that late 80’s grit that it had to its look. That grit is removed on this version and honestly, I feel it’s actually better for it. It just looks modern and stunning. The audio is also spectacular and all the bonus features I hoped would be there, are still intact. You can really tell they cared about this release and I’m stoked to add it to my collection.

    I saw a few videos and reviews claiming the picture is bad compared to some other releases, which made me reluctant to buy. I have the Special Edition DVD and never owned any of the blurays. The 4k BR is a huge step up visually, but the real reason to buy if you have an earlier version is the Atmos sound. It is awesome to hear the Queen's tail whipping around my head on my couch - one of many audible improvements over the DVD.

    Cameron did an amazing job with this. For an old movie, this 4k print was great to watch. Scenes were crisp and even the extra dark scenes (like outside of the colony habitats, large vehicles driving around etc) everything was clear, colour was well balanced and did not notice grain or upsampling artifacts. Special edition is also on this print!
