Its 2x dual-band antenna (2.4GHz / 5GHz) setup lets you connect to AC networks at a tire-burning 867Mbps and to N networks up to a whopping 300Mbps. As the new wireless draft 802.11ac technology was developed to optimize the handling of heavy data transfer demands like video streaming and large files syncing, the AWUS036ACM is the ultimate tool for taking advantage of the next wave in wireless connectivity. Yet, despite all its power and speed, this little Alfa comes in a really small form factor akin to a USB thumb drive.

Removable Rubber Duck Antennas for Powerful Flexibility
The AWUS036ACM ships with 2 detachable 5dBi dual-band dipole antennas. While these are powerful in their own right, the RP-SMA female antenna port can accept antenna upgrades to boost your wireless range and signal even more. Once your antenna of choice is connected, this turns into a standalone Wi-Fi receiver that puts the connected world at your fingertips. Alfa is also seriously invested in your privacy, it includes support for enterprise class wireless security WEP 64-Bit, WEP 128-Bit, WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK.

No Introductions Are Needed
Whether you're using a desktop, laptop or a netbook, the Alfa AWUS036ACM requires no more than a USB port. Slide it in, install the Utility, and Connect to your network. The USB 3.0 interface keeps the connection to your computer strong and snappy at super transfer speeds of 5Gbps. Best of all, the Alfa measures just 85mm x 26mm x 12mm and weighs in at a super-light 25 grams so that it goes anywhere you do and brings wireless wonder along. When I first got the adapter, it wasn't recognized in Kali 2020.4 and I couldn't figure out why. I searched high and low for a solution and nothing worked. I ended up contacting Alfa and their awesome support lead me to an article on running Kali in a VM.

The issue is that I was in a VM and while I have never had an issue with other usb devices, this had an issue with usb 2 and usb 3.1�� It is a usb 3.1 device��and the port on my laptop is a usb 3.1, but the vm was setup��to decode that as usb 2.0.�� I changed the vm's usb settings to usb 3.1 and it worked fine.�� No other drivers were needed to be installed, it just started working.

I'm not an IT specialist so I can't offer any insight into how well this does for that purpose. However, for basic needs I still absolutely love this adapter. I travel for work which means different hotspot setups etc.., probably 95% of the time I'd be fine with the built in receiver in my laptop or a much cheaper 5dBi gain adapter for worse locations. This time though I'm up in the arctic and I'm not sure what the IT guy has done with the setup where I'm staying but it's an absolute nightmare. With the Alfa though I not only get a bit better reception overall I also see all the channels and I can ensure I'm on AC with the best signal possible in the place. In practice this means about 10x-20x faster connection in this situation and that makes the extra money spent on the adapter completely worth it for me.

Another thing I like is the detachable antennas for transport and if I lose or break one I can replace it.. I used to buy TP-Link gear, the last adapter I had did the job for much less until I snapped the antenna and the cheapo wire inside it lol.. $30 in the trash after couple weeks of use plus crap internet for the rest of my stay up north. Don't be like me, buy quality the first time, it's cheaper that way 😂
