Product Description
Mousto Balsamic Vinegar
Balsamic Vinegar ageing in oak barrels
Our Greek Mousto balsamic is made from balsamic vinegar aged for 5 years in oak barrels. We add our petimezi – grape must – at the end of the aging process to obtain delicious sweet notes on the finish. Light in acidity and velvety smooth, it contains no additives (no trace of caramel) and no added sugar.
Romeiki grapes collected in baskets
In Crete, grape harvest is not just a process; it's a celebration of life and nature's rhythm. It typically starts in late August and continues through September, varying slightly depending on the grape variety and local climate conditions. As the scorching Mediterranean sun begins to wane, the vines, which have been soaking up its energy all summer, prepare to yield their luscious fruit.
Harvesting the grapes for vinegar
At the heart of every harvest season are the hands that tend to the vines and pluck the grapes. Crete's vineyard workers, often generations of families working together, bring an unparalleled level of dedication and expertise to their craft. Their knowledge of when to pick each grape variety, how to handle the delicate fruit, and their tireless work under the sun ensure the quality of the harvest.
The Romeiki grape variety
The Greek Grape Harvest Tradition is deeply rooted in the country’s rich history and cultural heritage. With a legacy spanning centuries, Greece has become renowned for producing a diverse array of grape varieties, both for wine grapes and table grapes. As autumn sets in, marking the grape harvest season, vineyards across the country come alive with activity.
