Before you take a measurement, you slide the indicator all the way up. As you squeeze the calipers together, the indicator is pushed down the scale. Once you have squeezed hard enough that the little ball clicks into the notch on the side, you can release tension and the indicator will stay in that spot, making it easy to get a really good reading.

We have been using it for 8 weeks with 8 different individuals and the calipers have been consistent, so long as we manage to find the correct location to pinch. The instructions that come with the calipers are quite comprehensive and include good diagrams and a helpful table of body fat percentages.

Would buy again.

�鶹�� sells other calipers that are almost 1/2 the price. I went to the Accufitness website, and the calipers come in a protecive blister shell with instructions nicely printed and body fat charts colour coded.

My calipers came in a bag similar to a lunch bag, a poor quality black and white copy of some instructions, but not as exhaustive as what you would get according to their website.

The way it came it was way over priced.

I have now used these calipers, as has my wife, and the "click" you should feel when the calipers reach the correct thickness, it is almost impossible to feel. You have to actually watch the calipers to see when the calipers engage at the correct thickness.

I will see if I can return them.

I just looked into returning these calipers, and �鶹�� states that these calipers CAN NOT BE RETURNED!!! So I am out of a fair chunk of change.

So, my opinion is even firmer - DON'T BUY THESE CALIPERS.

In addition, if you are interested in measuring subcutaneous fat thickness of a particular location instead of knowing the body fat percentage. You could simply divide the measured thickness by caliper by two and then subtract epidermis thickness (typically ~ 0.1 mm).

Good precision which provides repeatable results. That’s all I needed to track the progress of my training / nutrition week by week.
The measuring slide makes it possible for you to take measurements on your own without the help of another person (apart from the subscapular site of course). You simply slide it to the right and as you feel the click you can release the pressure and just read the result.
The click felt during the measurement allows for the same amount of force being applied every single time hence removing the human judgement on how much to squeeze the device.
As the instructions only tells you to measure the suprailiac site (above the hip bone) and does not take in consideration other important sites like triceps, abdomen, leg, chest, etc.. you could end up having wrong conclusions on how your body is changing in general. You can easily overcome this problem by using any of the body fat calculators available online, where you will find 3, 4 and 7 site measurements calculators. The more sites the more accurate your body fat calculation will be.
Just as an example, in my case the difference between suprailiac only and the 4 sites method, the measurements varied by around 5% less for the multi-measurement one as for most people the first place to gain or perhaps the hardest to lose is around the waist even if you have a slim body.
For the measurement itself, there is not much difference between this and the Fat Track digital one which I also owned in the past. The digital having the advantage of calculating the final value for you at the end of the last site measurement without any charts but at a much greater extra cost and still limited to the number of sites that it has been designed for (3 for the standard digital caliper).
In the end of the day the final number is the least important for me, but rather how much the body fat is changing across different places of the body over time.
