This took me about 6 hours to put together and it looks really cool. I did have some trouble with the wiring instructions as I didn't find them really clear so make sure you understand those as best you can. I did wind up breaking the on/off switch so I had to solder it back together and it works fine now.

A couple of the pieces in the board had folds in them that allowed the wood to bend (such as the bar corner). You need to be super careful with the pieces as it's very easy to break them when trying to build the rounded corners.

All in all, it was a fun way to spend a Saturday and now I have a cool book-nook for my bookshelf.

I assembled around 2 dozen book nooks before starting this kit. I love building book nooks, and I've done a wide variety of them in terms of difficulty, quality, and more.

This one I nearly passed over because it didn't look that interesting to me, but I took a chance, and I'm so glad I did. It's so much prettier in person than it looked in the listing photos, and it was a high quality, straightforward book nook to build.

==== Tools/Supplies ====

The book nook kit says it doesn't come with glue. Mine actually did, but it was an unlabeled squeeze bottle where the tip would have to be cut off, and I knew that would not produce clean results. I grabbed a spare tube of B-7000 for assembly, and I strongly recommend it for assembling book nooks.

That said, very little glue was needed. I was kinda shocked. I mean, you absolutely need glue in the steps where it tells you to glue things together, and there are a number of those. However, I'm used to needing lots of glue to help secure other pieces together too due to imprecise cutting. I did need to do that a couple places in this kit, but that was it. Most of the wood was cut VERY precisely so that things fit neatly. If anything, it erred on too tight a fit, though that's easy enough to fix by using the included sanding stick to shave the prongs down a little.

You will need scissors for a couple small steps. Most papers are adhesive, but there is one "greaseproof paper" sheet with two shapes you'll need to cut out and glue. They are not intricate shapes, so don't worry if you're not great at cutting details.

I also used pliers in a few places when I didn't feel like shaving down bits to make them fit. They are not necessary to assemble this kit, but they can ease the process.

==== Note on adjustments/complications ====
This kit was a pretty straightforward build, as I mentioned, but there are times where it makes sense to change instruction order or do things a little differently.

There's a step early on where you need to run wires underneath the floor panel and then put the bottom panel underneath it, sealing them inside. I strongly recommend using a little bit of tape to hold the wires in position so you're not accidentally pinching wires while trying to put things together. On that note, make sure you have enough length available in the taped position for where they need to end up. I had to go back and redo the bottom panel and my tape near the end because my touch panel wire wasn't long enough to glue the touch panel in the correct spot.

In many steps, they want you to glue decorative pieces onto a piece before assembling that piece into a miniature piece of furniture. That makes assembly more difficult, so I recommend assembling the furniture piece first and THEN gluing the decorative pieces on.

On page 6 and 10, they label shapes from the Greaseproof Paper with L instead of M. I have a sticker correction on page 6, but not page 10, which confused me at first when I couldn't find the shape on the wooden sheet labeled L. It's M for both.

There are 3 LED bulbs that are bare and visible on completion if you don't add lampshades or similar. If you follow the instructions to angle them at a 90 degree angle down, they won't shine directly at you and should be bearable. I'm speaking as someone who's light sensitive and normally takes a star off when book nooks have garish lights visible on completion. I'm not thrilled with these, but these weren't painful. I covered mine using translucent glass spacer beads with a hole diameter of 5mm to better diffuse the light and add some charm. You may want to consider doing something similar if you really hate exposed LED bulbs in book nooks. Honestly, taping a cone lampshade together using a bit of paper can do wonders too.

That's it for things to pay attention to. Obviously, glue everything down that's at all wiggly before you close the book nook up. It's easier to do preventive corrections than fix things after they get jumbled.

You will need to furnish 2 of your own AAA batteries. This kit took me about 16 hours to assemble. It could be done a lot quicker if you don't sand down and stain the gating like I did. But why rush, for me the enjoyment is in the building of these kits. One feature that I really like is that this kit incorporates an acrylic top and front that completely encloses all of the miniature components to keep them dust free.

It came in a nondescript white box, which honestly doesn't make it a great gift idea since the recipient wouldn't know what it is. As a fun craft for yourself or your family though? It's wonderful, and very well made. Please do use the glue though, as failure to do that will result in some frustrations later on. Building these things is very time consuming, but straightforward and fun. That's the whole point of these, to have a craft that takes a few hours and provides a fun time. My spouse and I can usually knock one of these out together in 2 hours, and it makes for a very fun thing to build for a crafty date night!

Overall, this is a great kit at a great price. Really good value AS LONG AS you don't need retail packaging that shows off what it is for a gift.

I have put together a few book nook kits, and this one is the most detailed and beautiful by far. While it is definitely the best looking, it was also the most involved to assemble, although the instructions do a great job of guiding you. Some of the pieces fit together with almost no clearance, so you must take care to not use too much force or you may damage the pieces. The pictures do a very good job of representing how it actually looks, so if you think it looks good, I would definitely go for it. It is only slightly more expensive than other book nooks I've gotten, but the added quality definitely makes up for it.
