The Ranger MUTTs are commercial or utility/RV trailer light and electric brake testers that reduce guesswork and save time by powering each trailer electrical circuit on 7-flat, 6-round, 4/5 pin (#9101) or 7-way round pin (#9102) arrangements. This allows for proper verification of wiring configuration, ground integrity, short circuit and overload conditions, along with electric brake operation and turn signal simulation. Each Ranger MUTT features a water resistant, rugged design and features an internal battery compartment and external 12V power port which can be used as a memory saver, test light supply or trickle charge input.

#9101 Light Ranger MUTT (Mobile Universal Trailer Tester)

The Light Ranger Mobile Universal Trailer Tester (MUTT) is a portable and water-resistant trailer light tester and trailer brakes tester that allows the user to perform all testing functions without the use of the vehicle. For 7-way spade, 6-way round and 4/5 pin trailer harnesses, the Light Ranger MUTT simulates all electrical circuits of standard towing vehicles for boating, RV, landscaping, hunting and similar type light duty trailers. Included with each tester is a battery charger and 3-way trailer harness adapter.

    I am writing the review after using for couple of months. Here’s the crucks:

    1. Plug and play, simple to use device( need to use both hands while plugging in)
    2. With this much money, there should be an option for wireless remote controller to operate from a distance which could have saved more time as in my case 5 minutes is usual time to test 53’ trailer. Have to go back and forth to change function
    3. Cyclic mode option would have been more beneficial if added, quick and would act as auto pre trip
    4. More visual indicator like buzzer or LED flasher is also an added functionality for saving time and for quick troubleshooting

    Anyways, its nice to have it. It is pretty sturdy, look wise bit traditional but does the work

    The product is poorly packaged from the manufacturer. The 7-way plug has an extended lip used to open the cover. The loose packaging allows the unit to shift around in the box and depending on how the box is handled it can break off. Another customer posted a picture of the exact damage I have.
    The tool itself is well put together and the quality is good. It works as designed. You’ll get a workout as you have to circle the trailer after each selection since it manually tests one circuit at a time.
    Keep in mind, you will have to get a battery and a 7-way cable to use this tool. A straight cable is a better option if you’re going to leave the tool on the ground while testing.
    Overall, including the damage, I’m happy with the purchase. I do feel like the manufacturer needs to add some foam to prevent damage but I’d definitely buy another one if need be.
