I was a bit skeptical at first with some of the reviews on here for this tool but I needed to get something as the shop I borrowed the kit from the last time could no longer lend it to me. I was looking for a decent tool at a reasonable price as I may only use this once every three or 4 years maybe less. I was very impressed with the initial quality when I opened the box, the carrying case is not super sturdy but it is acceptable and should last providing it is not abused. The C clamp is very heavy and well made and pressed 4 ball joints out of a 1985 F150 4x4 with little trouble even with my initial mistakes. Installing the ball joints was pretty easy as I have a Makita impact that is easily capable of over 700 ft lbs of torque if required and it drove the new ball joints in with no flex in the C frame. I am planning on getting the kit with the additional cups etc to complete this tool and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs this type of tool. Also I greased the screw with lots of grease and you can barely see any of the black coming off the screw after all the use.

Product was exactly what was required for the purpose. Which was replacing a rear ball joint in my Sebring. I actually found other uses for it as well, for example to compress disc brake calipers when installing new brake pads. This tool is heavy and appears to be well made. It is a bit bulky so had a bit of difficulty making it fit into smaller places but all the fittings seem to there so that you can make it work. They suggest not to use an impact gun so I heeded that warning. I was a bit concerned about being able to apply enough pressure with a ratchet but it worked easily. It certainly made the job a lot easier.

I used this tool to press in new ball joints into the front lower control arm of my 2007 Ford Explorer. It took me a minute to figure out the best cylinders and ends to use, but once I got going, the ball joint pessed in well.

A few tips... Grease the threads. Go slow. In my case, I used a torque wrench. When the torque jumped from about 70 ft lbs to 100 ft lbs, the ball joint was fully in.

A durable kit that may save the trouble of having to remove suspension components (i.e., control arms) from the vehicle. An affordable alternative to a traditional hydraulic shop press. Can be used for ball joints but I suspect that the kit may also work with pressed-in bushings. It is important to note that this kit has one limitation: although the c-clamp part is made very strong, the force that it exerts is not truly axial (unlike a shop press) and for shallow bores may cause the joint being pressed in to advance crooked and not fully seat in the bore. As such I found that to keep the new ball joint advancing into the bore straight, you may need to rotate the press through 180 degrees (or 270 degrees at 3 x 90 degrees if you have room) to fully seat the ball joint. This is critical! I attached two photos of my recent ball joint replacement work on a 2001 PT Cruiser; one using the press to remove the old one and one using the press to install (both sides done). Unlike some YouTube videos I watched where the user had to cut the top off the old ball joint off, with the appropriate selection of the components in this kit, this is completely unnecessary! I note that there is no instruction manual included but this is not a significant issue because removal of ball joints and bushings is more related to the method for the particular vehicle being serviced than the tool being used.

Got the product very quickly even though I cancelled the order after 30 minutes after ordering. Was not able to cancel. Then the product doesn't have the 1 inch tube for ball joint removal. Had to go to a machine shop to get one cut. This unit was a fight from the beginning. Had to stop process as unit seemed like it was going to snap. Time sensitive matter so I eventually had a shop do the last one. They had the proper tubes for a 4x4. Ford 3/4 ton 4x4. Pay the extra money and get a good one. I will buy a proper kit for my other truck. Now they have their product - a refund would be in order. Last but not least - seems that Prime membership is a scam. It takes a multiple days to get products with Prime membership, but only takes 1.5 days to return it.

So I bought the wrong set, this was a little too small for me. I have a 96’ F-350 4x4, and overall everything in the set was too small to fully work.

I was stuck to make it work though so I used this to get the ball joints moving then finished by smashing them out with a hammer. Installation was about the same.

That is all my fault, but I can comment on the tool itself. The threads in the C clamp and on the forcing screw already look pretty worn out after just 4 ball joints out and in. I did grease the threads. I don’t know how long it will last. Also the receiving cups seem slightly weak as one of mine is already deformed.

I am quite hard on stuff though so maybe it’s just me. Probably would be great for really small ball joints
