- Reviewed in Canada on June 19, 2018Verified PurchaseVery happy, no more playing up close to the tv or using extension cables on the controllers.
Something to remember when the 8Bitdo Retro Receiver arrives in the mail: RUN THE FIRMWARE UPDATE
The Retro Receiver was/is easy to update, link and use. The software is downloaded from 8Bitdo's website and come in Windows and Mac OS.
Instructions are clear and I had everything linked and working on the first try.
In terms of operation, the Retro Reciever works great. I use it with my SNES Classic and PS3 controller and it's a keeper for sure. I've tested a few games on the SNES and found no issue with the mapping...hence why it's important to update the firmware.
Even when I switched the console off and played a day or two later, the controller and receiver remained synced.

- Reviewed in Canada on October 10, 2018Verified PurchaseI already own a sn30 and a sf30 that i used with a rpie for a while. I bought this receiver (2x) to plug into my new snes classic. The result is flawless from 12feet, no perceived input lag and the controllers coupled easily with the receivers. 8bitdo does quality stuff that feels legitimate and sturdy. Buy with confidence.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 27, 2020Verified PurchaseReceiver worked but lagged with my SN30 Pro on my SNES Classic. SN30 Pro is running the latest firmware but I couldn't even update the receiver. Caused both of my computers to lock up when plugged in. Tried 6-7 times.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 23, 2021Verified PurchaseI ordered two of these for use with a mini NES classic. Using one controller it works pretty good, but any time you have two of these working at the same time the wireless signal gets all messed up and leads to so much lag and disconnection issues that it is unplayable. Playing 2 player games wirelessly was the entire reason I purchased these so it was a complete waste of money. Obviously the wireless technology is trash, don't buy if you intend on having more than one
- Reviewed in Canada on May 3, 2021Verified PurchaseFantastic little thing! Much less expensive than buying a wireless controller and works flawlessly with a PS4 controller!
(Just press the share and PS button till the light flash to get the controller in pairing mode press the button on the receiver till the light flashes too. Then when the light gets solid on the controller, press the option button and voilà!)
***EDIT*** While the adapter works fantastic to play SNES games, be aware that L2 & R2 WILL NOT WORK if you hack the console to play PSX games. I have been searching for hours and have not been able to find any workaround / guide to fix this.
- Reviewed in Canada on October 8, 2019Verified PurchaseWorks with My Super Nintendo Classic (mini). Gave 4 stars because I wish this was packaged together with the 8Bitdo SN30 Pro wireless controller instead of having to buy them separately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple product with great results.
Verified PurchaseThe adapter itself is about the size of a standard USB thumb stick which comes with a cable to update the firmware for newer controllers (in my case, the PS5 Dual Sense) which requires a seperate program download, but is very easy to use for those who lack tech knowledge.
I mainly use the adapter for my SNES mini system with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and from what I can tell, it works just as well as any standard wireless controller on their respected systems.
The adapter uses the plug type found on the Wii Controllers, but doesn't clip to the port like the Wii accessories do and sits in much like a USB plug.
Overall the build quality feels great with a nice sturdy plastic, but care should be taken if placed on the floor to avoid being stepped on, as it does stick out at almost the same length as the Nintendo Mini Systems and could be bent as a result.
It's worth mentioning that when testing the Switch Controller on a Wii remote that even though it has the same plug type, I did experience some issues with the controller (swapped L+R functions, forced movement on control stick) despite no flaws with the controller itself at the time of testing.
Overall I'd say it's a fantastic product that does the intended job, but may have mixed results if used with legacy hardware.

5.0 out of 5 stars excelente para jugar sin cables tu consola retro

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought to use with SN30 Pro+ and SNES Classic
Verified PurchaseI searched on if anyone else used this for a mini but did not find any answers on it so Ill share my experience. I bought this so i could use a controller to play. As for the 8bitdo controller, once I plugged it into my SNES classic I just had to press the button on the reciever, and the start button on my 8bitdo controller. Instantly connected and started working. What more can I say, if you want to get this for the SNES/NES Classic Mini, this is what you need! Have not tried to connect other controllers though.
Ok : After using this for a few hours I have one gripe with it
One downside of this product is the sync button is SO SMALL. when you plug it into your SNES Classic it kind of wiggles around and feels loose. When you try to press this TINY sync button, I feel almost as if I am going to break the reciever or the port itself. I also fumbled around trying to update the firmware on my PC since the button was so small I was trying to hold onto it while inserting it into the USB port, it was quite painful to do. I think they should make this button slightly bigger. The Long design of the unit also makes it feel flimsy when plugged into the SNES Classic and feel not very sturdy.
If they ever revise this or even read our reviews, I think maybe they want to design it to be shorter so it doesnt feel like the port will break from us just pressing the sync button.
But I would assume most people just sync once and forget about it so they wont touch the receiver often. For me I had the issue since I was trying to use the controllers both for my PC and the SNES classic
