Innovative design, the first foam earplug featuring a cylinder shape

The 3M E-A-R Classic Earplugs set the industry standard for personal safety noise reduction as the worlds first foam earplug. Soft, slow-recovery foam is designed to mold to the shape of the ear canal and provide hearing protection. These disposable earplugs come with or without cords; an optional dispenser box is sold separately. A cylindrical shape is suited to fit most sizes, with a 7% smaller version also available for smaller ear canals and a 20% longer version for larger ear canals.

Innovative design

The first foam earplug featuring a cylinder shape. Even in humid environments, the moisture-resistant foam helps provide more comfort. They are available in standard, small and large sizes.

Custom options

Hearing protection earplugs come with or without cords, and are available in different packaging types and quantities. Perfect for frequent visitors, these disposable earplugs can be distributed from a convenient dispenser box (sold separately).

However, 3M makes no warranties as to the suitability of the NRR for this purpose. 3M strongly recommends personal fit testing of hearing protectors. Research suggests that users may receive less noise reduction than indicated by the attenuation label value(s) on the packaging due to variation in fit, fitting skill, and motivation of the user. Refer to applicable regulations or guidance on how to adjust attenuation label values. It is recommended that the NRR be reduced by 50% to better estimate typical protection.

Directions

1. Roll the earplug between your fingers to compress it. 2. Gently insert the compressed earplug into your ear canal. 3. Hold in place for a few seconds while the foam expands to create a secure, comfortable fit. 4. Ensure a proper seal is formed for effective noise reduction. 5. To remove, gently twist and pull the earplug out. 6. Dispose of after use, as these are single-use earplugs.

    These are a bit expensive and cost a bit less than in my town but these are good. Soft, but NOT too soft and they block out the noise that you need to for ear protection. I have used these my whole career and find these are a very good product. I also, use them to sleep....It's very noisy around my home and I need these to help me stay asleep during the early mornings when everyone is off to work at 5am-6am.
    Also, during an afternoon nap....Awesome!
    Recommended and would purchase again.

    I like this product over the dozen or so others I have tried over the years because they stay in my ear longer and they block out more sound. If you want even more sound protection, I suggest running them under the tap for a few seconds. I have Menier's Disease and have lost 70% of the hearing in one ear. I now wear them all the time - at home, driving the car, bike riding, movie watching. Anything that is loud is now tolerable.
    What is also great is that you can use them more than once. If you keep your ears clean before putting them in, they will last many days. A superior product for a reasonable cost.

    Started using them because I lived in a dorm with 4 other musicians and it would sometimes get really loud at night. I was looking at buying a soundproofing mat which cost $150 and I wasn't even sure it was going to work.

    I tried these because they were pretty cheap and I thought, oh well, at least it'll reduce the noise.

    They're incredible. My roommate blasted music all he wanted after I got these, and I didn't mind. I slept peacefully. I didn't give it 5 stars because although it's pretty comfortable, it's not perfect. I'd give it 8/10 in comfort.

    Highly recommended. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could.

    I’ve been using these since I was a kid and they are great. I saw another poster mention they thought 3m had changed the foam, but that hasn’t been my experience. These are just like the very first ones I used 20 years ago. These are the only ear plugs I can wear for 12+ hours with no discomfort. They’re technically single use, but I get a few uses out of the ones I wear around the house. In my experience, they get dirty before the foam stops working. I used them for many years in a loud work setting and yearly hearing tests proved they work for hearing protection.

    I prefer the individually wrapped ear plugs because they last a long time in storage. And a box lasts me a long time. I found some in a flight bag from 15 years ago and they were just like new. The same 3m ear plugs that come loose in the envelope or loose in the box can kind of dry out over time and they don’t squish as easily. The texture definitely changes when they’ve been exposed to air for a long time. I think those are better for work environments where the boxes are being replaced quickly. Definitely not for the average at-home user.

    I need ear plugs to sleep. I don't need total silence, but I like ear plugs that make everything "muffled" and quiet. I've tried countless earplugs but so many leave my ears feeling incredibly sore after just a couple hours, making it very difficult to sleep.

    After much research, I took a chance on these earplugs and I've finally found the ones that work perfectly for me throughout the entire night. I can sleep with these earplugs for many hours with no soreness in my ears.

    Please note these ear plugs do not block ALL noise. I can still hear noise through the plugs and if someone is talking loud enough, I can understand them. Otherwise they do a great job of reducing noise overall and help me fall asleep.

    On a final note, I love that these come in individual plastic wrappers. It helps keep them clean but also prevents early deterioration of the plugs themselves. I can use one set of plugs for about a week before I replace them with a new pair.

    If you've suffered with sore ears from other plugs, I recommend giving these ones a try!
