    I wanted to get into cold process soap making and saw palm oil as one of the more common ingredients. This container helped me decide that I wanted to continue. The size is perfect to toss in the microwave to melt. As much as I’d like to reorder from here, I found a price point much more agreeable for me. I did keep the smaller bucket to be able to keep remelting my bigger bucket!

    I like cooking with coconut oil because of its health benefits and high heat tolerance, but sometimes the slight coconut flavour doesn't always complement what I am preparing. Palm oil offers much of the same health benefits of coconut oil while being flavourless, so this oil is a great alternative.

    I remember when I was younger, how many of the prepared foods on the market used palm oil because of how it is a natural and healthy saturated fat which meant that the prepared food was naturally shelf stable and didn't need any extra preservatives to keep it from spoiling. But that was before people started to believe that saturated fats were bad in the 70s and 80s, following a faulty study that became popularized. Further scientific study has since disproved that faulty study, but it is up to every individual to do their own research and to determine what they choose to eat. Saturated oils like palm and coconut oils provide a shelf stable, keto friendly, and heart healthy alternative to unstable and cheap inflammatory unsaturated vegetable oils like soybean and canola; which have become so commonplace in prepared foods these days.

    In the end, no matter if using this oil for soap-making or for a more healthy cooking oil that is also flavourless, I appreciate that this oil is certified organic and is 100% sustainably sourced in Ecuador and prepared in Canada.

    This palm oil came in a 1kg tub that was easy to open and close tightly for use. The oil is great as a base for DIY soap making - you can look up basic ratios if combining with other oils like olive oil, coconut oil, or avocado oil to get a stable base. 1kg can make quite a few soap bars depending on what size you're making them so it is economical for handmade soaps. It could also be used for cooking if you like, but I prefer using this for soap making.
