ظَهَر كتاب ’’أسئلة في العهد القديم.‘‘ سنة 2014 مُتناوِلًا بعض القضايا التي تثير الجدل والتفكير ورُبما أحيانًا الصراع، عندما يقرأ المؤمنون المسيحيون العَهد القديم. ظَلّ هذا الكتاب غير مشهورٍ، لأنني لم أكُن أروِّج له، اعتقادًا مني أن له ’’جمُهورُهُ الخاصّ‘‘ وهو جمهورٌ بطبعِهِ باحِثٌ وسوف يصل إليه بدون ترويج كثير. لكن بعد ثلاث سنوات، أي سنة 2017 بدأ أحد الرُعاة الإنجيليين في الولايات المتحدة بنشر مقالات في مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي هجومًا على هذا الكتاب وعلى شخصي. فقَامَ العالمُ الإنجيلي ولم يقعُد حتى الآن، وذلك بالذات لأن الغالبية العُظمى للإنجيليين في العالم، وفي الولايات المُتحدة بالذات، يعتقدون أن التطور والإلحاد وجهان لعُملة واحدة، وأن من يؤمنون به، أو بالعِلم عمومًا، لا يؤمنون لا بالله ولا بوحي الكتاب المقدس.
من الإيجابيّ أن هذا الكتاب، أثار حراكًا شديدًا في المجتمع المسيحي بأسره حول هذه القضية، وأقيمت الندوات وسُجِّلت الفيدوهات، وكُتِبَت الكُتُب التي، بشكلٍ أو بآخر، تقوم بالرَّد على هذا الكتاب، وهذا أمرٌ جيد. والآن بعد مرور أكثر من ست سنوات على ظهور هذا الكتاب، و مرور عدة سنوات على نفاذِهِ من المكتبات. قَرَّرتُ أن أعيدَ إصدارَهُ والتركيز فقط على قضايا الخلق والتطور والخطية الأصلية، وأترُك مَسألتيّ مسار الخروج وحروب العهد القديم لغيري من الأكثر تَخَصُّصًا في هذه الأمور. هذا ليس لأني أعتبِرُ نفسي مُتخصِّصاً في علوم الأحياء والتطوُّر، لكنني مُهتَمّ بها، ومُهتَمٌّ أكثر بالانتقال من الفهم والتفسير الحرفيين للكُتُب المُقدسة، إلى الفهم الروحي والتفسير اللاهوتي، لأنني أعتقدُ أنهُما بَوابَة عبورِنا إلى إصلاح الإصلاح والذي بحسب بعض اللاهوتيين يجب أن يحدُث كُلُّ خمسمئة سنة.
