Le Commandant Scott McNabb et l'équipage restant du vaisseau d'exploration Hermes au destin tragique, voyagent vers la Terre dans une région autrefois connue sous le nom de Vallée de la Mort, désormais une terre désolée irradiée. Leur mission consiste à connecter l'intelligence quantique, Athéna, au réseau de communications pan-solaire, permettant aux IQ de reprendre le contrôle de la Terre aux Sept et à leurs serviteurs IA.

Leur navette est endommagée lors de son entrée dans l'atmosphère terrestre et elle atterrit loin de l'emplacement prévu. Pire encore, elle a été repérée par l'IA qui contrôle la région et des drones de sécurité la recherchent maintenant.
